Yeah, sure. In that line of thinking, I can just use "class name".
The outcast
= = =
In all seriousness to the original author...
http://www.runicgames.com/torchlight2/
This links to a page containing some info on the class themes and cultures.
= = =
Engineers are inspired by the Steampunk style which is partly inspired by the Industrial age of steam powered machines...
A name from an Industrial Empire at that time would be fitting.
= = =
Embermages, according to the developer "Runic" have some connection to the "Imperial" Engineers and basically represent generic "Spiritualists" that have aided the earlier ages of science... fitting names may trace back to any culture related to the Renaissance.
= = =
Outlanders are clearly adventurers and have the most vast historical connections ranging from pirates, mercenaries, explorers, pilots, sailors, elite squads, assassins, and acrobats from almost any historic age minus digital ones (since TL2 lacks computer or spaceship based themes).
= = =
Berserkers can be Nordic (Northern European) however the Northern Turkic and late roman era Northern Invaders or even Northern Asian Tribes can be also be used to source fitting names.
These source the "Hunter Raider Empires" and often share an origin with the Embermage and Outlander but ironically once the they get too comfortable their bodies become lazy and their minds begin to envision machines which leads to the empires of the Engineer.
However Berserkers in an Industrial age would be anyone who gathers the source of material production because without them- there would be no machines and Engineers would be mere artists painting strange numbers on a wall... ;)

I hope this helps inspire further naming possibilities!
Now, this is what I was talking about! Cheers!
If I could get a single moment of your time more, care to share Destroyer and Alchemist name inspirations too? So I don't name them "Destroyer" and "Alchemist" lol.
= = =
Well Destroyers bear a similar origin to Berserkers yet with a different purpose [a more sane and calculated warrior general name].
= = =
Vanquishers seem to be a more "guardian" or medival "swat" police [militia type names].
= = =
Alchemists are definitely a much earlier era of science than Engineers and is probably fitting to name them after early chemists.
Vanquisher has an official name, so no problem there :D .
I feel cheated that the Destroyer isn't named in TL2(and I guess Alch too, idk).
The reason for that is that there are a lot of Vanquishers in TL2 so the TL1 one needed to have unique name. There are only one Destroyer and Alchemist, so they don't need to have a name to distinguish them from other characters.
It's like Sun and Moon are our only sun and moon, so we don't bother using other names.
