There are tombs of family members, and each family member has a Latin sentence.

The puzzle references numbers.

Count letters for each family member's Latin sentence.

For example:
"The son studied his Latin alphabet dutifully. Father: Two precious children in his heart." If you look at the father's inscription:
AD ASTRA PER ASPERA so the first letter is D (because of “TWO”)

But yeah, its confusing some additional clue would be nice. The letters have symbols and that visual information reading the text of the crypt confuse a little.

Hello! Check out https://witheringrooms.com/hints.html and thanks for the feedback - we'll work on the puzzle text to give it a stronger hint.

Ah yes the Mausoleum Puzzle...the 1 of 2 puzzles in the entire game that got me a headache literally. Before i asked for assistance in clues, my brain keeps telling me to take the first letter of something like name, date, cause of death, etc. After solving the puzzle with the help of hints given from a fellow player...i still feel not satisfied for some reason.

I swear I tried that first. When ti didn't work I fell down the rabbit hole. I looked up the translations (which are not what they say in the clue) Then I figured maybe it was how many of each letter appears in each text for the family members. When that didn't work I added Peter's count into it...and now I have so many cryptic notes and latin phrases on my desk that if I die down here my family will think I was in a cult!
