the dark lord is the stand alone dlc wich is mostly the same game but with alot more and a new campaign you can't play the capaign of the first one with this one.
dungeons 2 is a completly diffrent game and dungeons 3 is also a diffrent game but mostly like D2.
Personally i liked the dark lord the most.
If u you want to play them all i suggest starting with the first as you will miss stuff from the dark lord in the first game if you start with that one.
Dungeons: Dark Lord - an expansion, more than a DLC, it's kind of Dungeons 1.5 with it's own story line, dunno, havent finished it, I'd guess maybe 12 or so quite long missions. Powering up is tied to resources, you buy strength/agility/etc each level from prestige/gold/soul gain
(These two are tied to heroes entering your dungeon and being harvested when they reach maximum satifaction for soul energy. Only three room types - prison, armoury, library, and you decorate the dungeon with "gimmicks" (♥♥♥♥♥♥ name) and traps)
Dungeons 2: entirely separate game, mixes dungeon building with RTS, dungeons have rooms I think, from memory, like lairs, taverns and whatnot. You can enter the overworld and murder-ate the good guys. It's a game that is both more complicated than the earlier titles and yet at the same time simpler. Probably more fun.
Dungeons 3: latest installment, havent played yet.
I'd previoiusly gotten through 1, and played a bit of DL. I quite enjoyed 1 first time, but it really doesnt survive a second play through years later. DL is just a bit too stapled together for me to enjoy, and the parody lord of the rings tone ♥♥♥♥♥ me to tears.
Personally I'd try DUNGEONS for at least the first couple of missions and if you don't like it, jump directly do D2.
