What the ♥♥♥♥ am I doing wrong? absolutely getting slaughtered on Medium
I have played so many other shooters on the harder difficulties, but for some reason this beautiful yet ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frustrating game just is sucking all the fun out of it.

The toads with their tongues do WAY too much damage, as well as the vomit balls. Trying my damndest but they're just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ everywhere.

Going to take a break as it's not fun right now and just genuinely pissing me off.

If anyone has any genuine suggestions I will gladly take them, as I love the game when it's fun.

Are you using the number to the right of the enemy names and comparing it to the numbers on your weapons?

You could be using weak weapons against hard targets. Like plaguetoads have like a 4 I think and boltgun is 4 so its alright but shotgun is 3 so its terrible and plasma is 7 so its great.

It also really helps you plan out what weapon to be holding when you pick up the blessing.

If you're having trouble in the PURGE areas, just try running in circles around the outer perimeter. The majority of enemies are too stupid to cut you off, so you can occasionally turn around, kill a few, and then continue running in the same circular motion. Most of the major enemies also tend to stick near the center of arenas, so they shouldn't be much of an issue. Kill the smaller/weaker enemies, then once they're mostly exterminated go to the center and target the bigger/tougher ones. Rinse, repeat until finished.

Let us be honest, plague toads are unballanced as hell. I mean.....compared to other enemies in the same cathegory.
The game has massive difficulty spikes as soon you have to face those nurgle bastards.

Well sadly that doesn't help a lot if you face them early in the chapters where you don't have much weapons, only your bolter or MAX the shotgun. 1st and 2nd chapter start out with them.

Most of the purge areas also have buffs for your boltgun laying around. If your having issues in those areas, spend a life just learning where all the power ups are, die, then destroy.

Toads are pretty easy, sit behind something like a column or something and fire plasma rounds into them, when they shoot their tongue or slime just pop back behind column or wall or whatever. Same strategy works for Lord of Change.

Move around more, jump

Are you having trouble in Chapter 1 Level 3? Back in Mission 2 you can find a (spoilers) Vortex grenade, which is one of the level's secrets. There's also another Vortex Grenade found in the starting Annex of Level 3, but you can only carry one Vortex Grenade at a time. Then when you encounter the plague toads in Level 3 you can select the Vortex grenade from your grenade inventory and toss it at the first Plague Toad to finish it off. At least that's what I did.

The Plague Toad is the first really dangerous enemy that the player faces, showing up in the last arena of the the level 3 mausoleum level. I think that part of that for me was that I didn't expect a big, dopey looking toad to be more of a threat than various forms of Chaos Marines. But they are large, high damage, and high toughness enemies, so here we are. Thankfully their tongue and poison attacks do have some travel time.

A Vortex Grenade may be overkill, though one does appear before the first fight where they show up. But it's probably a good idea to soften them up with one or more less powerful grenades. The arena does have some to snag even if you show up dry for some reason, and the Chaos Marines can drop them on death. Given the toad's width, you'll be able to see it well before either of you have line of sight and toss a 'nade accordingly.

Other than that, you'll want to use some distance and hit and run tactics for them.

I have to say I started jumping like hell on that level. Like, Warhammer 40K: Parkour Marine. Dude is seriously agile. Also get the hang of melee. If you run around holding right click, you'll lock onto the first enemy to cross your aim, just let go and boom. I also just realized that when meleeing, if you keep clicking right mouse you will just keep chainsawing until they're dead. It's almost OP.

Don't stand still. Like literally move around, strafe, jump, take cover and avoid getting hit, and you won't take as much damage.

The plasma gunners seem to have lead-follow hit accuracy..

The key is not rush for medikits in purge areas, you even have an invulnerability shield when you're just about to die. Try to manage the medikits laying around bc theres a plenty of them. Also, use the freaking heavy bolter a lot with chaos marines and bigger enemies, it does more than just crowd control, it just destroys everything, i'm playing on exteminatus and this thing is easily the best weapon in the game. Oh, of course, never stand still in the same spot

For the plague Toad, just stay away from it, use the heavy bolter and it will be dead in no time, The Plasma Gun and grenades works well too, and strafe a lot while shooting

Also, don't waste the vortex grenades if you find one (on secret areas), use it on bosses.

yeah don't get too close and use weapons with at least str 5, when they have about 30% of their health left you can just mulch them with the chainsword

I was under the impression that the Shotgun is 3 STR per PELLET is that incorrect?

The biggest toads are indeed dmg sponges. Normal bolter or shotgun are imo way too weak to deal with them. I usually use best weapon available to kill them. Preferably melta. If you dont have it- plasma (with machine spirit its wonderful) or heavy bolter (all around great weapon against mid tier enemies like terminators or these flying blue demons). And grenades (but no vortex, save it for bosses).
