Taunt Mechanics
So Taunt is very flavorful and neat, but it currently does nothing. At the same time enemies drop tons of tiny pickups that you have to run around like a roomba hoovering up.

So why not solve two issues with one stone:

Taunt triggers a pick-up vacuum around the player. That way players can taunt post-fight to grab pickups in a large area, and taunt mid-fight to get a quíck boost of health and conempt, at the cost of being vulnerable during the taunt animation.

That's a great idea!

Why tf would taunting something do either of those things? Sometimes, a thing is in a game just for flavor or humor. I'm all for trying new game mechanics, but I would rather it have an effect like "lower enemy moral" or something that would fit what an actual taunt from a Space Marine would do. I'd piss myself if a fully armored Space Marine pointed his bolter at me and said "I smell daemon filth!"

I mean considering your armor is contempt, it would just make sense for enemies to drop more contempt if you kill them after a taunt.

It's a dumb reference to a recent, and now removed, rule for the tabletop game also called "Armor of Contempt". Long story short, it gave anyone wearing power armor (and IG tanks) a better save to offset the fact that the game is filled to the brim with weapons designed to mulch Space Marines...the most popular and common army played in tabletop. Though for the taunting I think it would've been better as a build engine character style where the Marine spouts them off randomly whenever you do something particularly cool, or interacts with something.

I like it as just a fun thing, like pressing r pointlessly spins your weapons in Dusk.

I like the idea of the taunt having a secondary use. Maybe have it on a cool down and pressing it causes a knock back (like the enemies are sh1titng themselves!)

I suggested making Taunt buff the taunted enemy (an enraged mechanic - the enemy gets pissed at you and attacks harder / gets stronger etc). If you kill an enraged enemy, you get a bit extra HP + Contempt drops.

but in dusk it still has some depth since with dual wield weapons like pistols, spinning them actually does melee damage. It isn't necessary but it is little details like that which help a game stand the test of time

I love to taunt during the purging of these filthy heretics .
if they would add a mechanic or something to it would be nice and make this game more unique.

its great how he has 2 different animation when taunting
1ste one when clenching his fist .
and 2ste one he is pointing and putting his fist up when taunting at the enemy .
maybe one more where he points his swords while taunting would be cool.

if memory serves spinning the guns can actually do something else. CIvI11 talked about it.

it does, depending on the gun spinning them does melee damage

the damage is still absolutely awful, you're better off going ham with sickles if you're that desperate

right but it does SOMETHING games that stand the test of time normally go above and beyond, they add things for the hell of it whether anyone will actually use them or not because that gives you additional agency in the gameplay.

This reminds me of TF2 when the *POW* finger-gun taunt that Heavy does can actually kill someone at low health.
