The game needs an actual flamer.
I'm far from convinced that trash mob spam (the nurgling mega-hordes) is good game design, especially if those trash mobs are very mobile, have a ranged attack and are effective at avoiding chainsword lock-on. But, if we're going to have it, then I think there needs to be a low level crowd control weapon. Certainly by the late game ammo for weapons such as the plasma, volkite and grav gun need to be reserved for high tier enemies (great unclean, lord of change etc) so I think it would make sense to have a flamer for low-tier enemy crowd control.

The basic flamer would be perfect for this role. Make it STR-3 so it's effective against nurglings, blue horrors & basic cultists but ineffective against anything serious. The Omnissiah upgrade would be a waste but could simply add +1 STR and buff the ammo capacity. That way we'd have an effective low-tier crowd control weapon that would still allow mid & high tier enemies to be effective threats.

Strange that such an iconic 40K weapon was omitted.

The Flamer is not iconic for Space Marines but for the Sisters of Battle.

Also, the Boltgun itself is good enough at clearing out Nurgling swarms.

Good point. Hopefully we'll get some Khorne & Slaanesh demons to wipe out as well as some new firepower.

Khorne deamons I can see for a potential expansion.

Slaanesh however......well....probably not, I guess?
Mostly due to the hypersensible (or brittle) Snowflakes mentality nowadays.

????Wha? Their a army represented consistently in lore and other video games and on the tabletop. No one who is a actual fan of this setting and IP is going to crap the bed over their inclusion in a game about killing chaos forces. It's bizarre if anything if they were excluded. Total Warhammer 3 and the Rogue trader CRPG has no issue featuring them.

Most 40k games that include Chaos don't feature the entire Chaos roster as it's possibly the second largest after Space Marines, so why find anything "bizarre" here?

I was referring towards those screech heads and "Activists" on Social media and "Game Journalists", which are getting far to much attention by Developers and Publishers for my taste.

Who said a single word about the entirety of a faction being shown off? Having 1 or 2 daemons from slannesh isn't the "entire roster"....

Unlike some others, I find the shotgun useful in some scenarios, but I think the flamer would've been a better fit in its slot. That being said, taking a second look at the new game screen, the UI looks an awful lot like its meant to have the option to choose different Marines with different abilities. Hopefully, we'll get a Salamander option with a flamer and/or heavy flamer option in the future.

So and where would they fit in? They already replaced Nurgle's standard lesser daemons, the Plaguebearers, with Plague Toads to spice up variety. Stuff like Daemonettes would not differ massively from Blue Horrors (fast, glass-cannony, melee unit).

So instead of demanding that stuff be included, go the additional step and also say what kind of gameplay they should bring with them.

I see what you mean about the 'character selection screen' - yes, the entire screen would be appropriate for selecting Marines of different chapters. We could also have a Sister Sororitas and a member of the Ordo Hereticus. Interesting.

Yeah, it really is! Turning 'dem pricks into mush with this thing never gets old.

this game looks like it would fit Black Templars to a T

I'd also like to see a flamethrower, but I'm not sure how good you can make one visually and in terms of feedback in this engine. You can also use the plasma gun against trash, it has a good splash radius and you dont need to save the ammo for other enemies ;-)

I want a Raven Guard add on, with thunder claws, sniper rifles, and an ultimate attack on a cooldown - cringe emo poetry recital.
