Better way to switch weapons on keyboard?

It would be nice if there was a weapon wheel function for keyboards or a way to double up the weapons to go to 1-4 since getting to the bigger weapons means to take my fingers off the control buttons to hit them, is there a way to make this more managable?

Have you considered putting some weapons directly on the mousewheel? Even offloading just 3 in place of mousewheel up/down/click will free up a lot of room if you will never need to cycle weapons forward or backwards again.

Tab switches between two, you can scroll, and the number keys. You could probably rebind other keys to specific weapons too, I guess.

Dpad works great for me.

Yeah it does on my steam deck but sometimes mouse just does better aiming and it would be nice if there was a way to bring up a weapon wheel or allow to bind two weapons to the same number key like half life does

Best to use other keys around your WASD area.
You can use keys like Q, F, CTRL, ALT, X, C, V.

I use middle mouse button to throw grenades instead of Q, which frees it up.
I also don't need Dash on F since I use shift, and I toggle running with capslock.
Crouching is not a thing in the game, so CTRL is free.
Plenty of keys to have your whole arsenal accessible.

Bind other weapons near WASD as suggested by others here. Use 1,2,3,4 then keys like Q, E,Z,X,C,F, CTRL, and ALT. You can also bind other weapons to MOUSEWHEEL UP or MOUSEWHEEL DOWN. Unfortunately, you can't bind weapons in MOUSE 4 and 5 buttons for some reason (if you have a gaming mouse).

Well, that would be really strange if it is really impossible to bind guns on side mouse buttons. Altho I didn't do that with guns, I did bind charge and grenade on side mouse buttons and it works.

I'm going to test this. I just tried binding the guns with the mouse side buttons and it wouldn't work.
