is there a way to avoid his invisible attack? am I just not seeing it?

He doesn't advertise that attack well, just don't be in the line of sight when he launches it. If you get hit, try to step behind cover to where you are not in it's line of sight, then the damage will cease. Better to attack the LoC when he's busy launching one of his fireball-fountain looking attacks.

A few players have posted threads and videos here how to beat the LoC, just search for Lord or LoC.

Yeah, the LoC can be pretty predicable and dealt with without much trouble. Though its telegraphs aren't the most clear at first. This might help you out:

if hes not shooting projectiles at you, i expect hes about to just hit you via line of sight and its best to go behind cover if possible. It made it a very slow fight to keep popping in and out but its what i did to keep my health

Always have cover readily available.

Have the black hole grenade (can't remember its proper name now) ready and pop it as soon as you see the ♥♥♥♥♥♥, then use Machine Spirit with the Plasma Gun and he melts.
