Peopl have been asking awhile never going to happen so I took it off wishlist
Kinda like when you go to a restaurant and complain about the food, the chef comes over and grab the plate from your table and tells you to get the f out..
Brutal but honest.
Hey, I can explain a bit more.
This game was made mostly by my wife and me. We’re a super small team, with only a few contractors hired within our budget. To bring the game up to the standards we wanted, we had to cut some features.
Reintroducing controller support at this stage would take about a quarter of a year to rework everything, and honestly, I just don’t have the motivation or energy for that. We are kind of overwhelmed trying to support everyone already, but we are doing our best.
It would also be disrespectful to you, the players, to release poor-quality controller support and start selling it, so we’ve decided against it.
For our next project, we’ll plan around controller support (and translations) from the very beginning, but unfortunately, not for this project.
I hope you understand.
I wish you the best, I will be keeping an eye on your future projects, Thank you for being so responsive.
There should already be one created, you can find more info in the post from May 26 of last year in this thread.
That being said, it is not recommended, as the game was designed for mouse and keyboard.
I already shared one setup up there, that one was made by me and was my best attempt.
To give you some context, I’ve personally never played games with a controller. Why does that matter? Because when it comes to design and coding, everything here is made by me.
I tried to add controller support, but it was like designing a bicycle as someone who doesn’t know how to ride one. So, last year, I bought a controller and spent a few weeks playing other games to learn how to use it. Then, I spent a lot of time trying to implement it into this game, but the results weren’t good enough. To handle all the mechanics properly, it would take months of reworking everything, so I scrapped it. That being said, as part of that attempt, I created that Input Profile.
If you have a disability and really want to play this game, that Input Profile should be enough to get through it from beginning to end.
But to officially include controller support, market the game, and sell it as such, it would take months of reworks.
Look, if you’re willing to try something on your own, not only do I support that, but I’m also inviting you to join the Discord and share your progress.
I’ll do my best to answer any of your questions.
I’m technically on a break for health reasons, but I’ll find time to respond, and if there are simple blockers, we can even add a mini patch or two.
I checked out the only Community Xbox style profile available and it works decent enough. I had to change some of the sensitivity settings but so far it's ok. There is definitely some remapping I will do with it to make it a tad more intuitive, but I literally just got sick yesterday and have other projects I need to work on, but I will update the profile for sure and upload it hopefully in the next week or two.
I'm not counting Mortal Kombat, Super Mario, and other 2D games we played more than 20 years ago.
Last year, I tried to learn from games like Grim Dawn, intentionally playing them with a controller. And let me tell you, what they did there is a work of art, the UI changes, the way skill targeting works, and how the whole experience transforms. Really, props to them.
Sure. If you run into any easy-to-fix blockers during your run, feel free to reach out through Discord and we will see how hard it would be to remove them.
