1. The best "tutorial" level/beginning of any ARPG, bar none. I think I enjoyed the game the most in the very first "town".
2. The game is a joy as an archer.
3. I really enjoyed the voice acting of the first "VIP" mage dude you meet in the first town. I cannot get a version of the phrase "You must...erm...BEHAVE!" and probably have said it 100 times in real life since.
3. Only weakness IMHO is, IIRC, was that mage characters apparently had to rely on mana potions exclusively...mana didn't recharge on its own. I would have enjoyed trying a mage build otherwise.
4. I really enjoyed the theft mechanics more than most. Or, there were places where stealing was very fun. Or something.
Sheesh now I'm contemplating a replay...
I'd say this game is more akin to Balrum on steroids.
When it comes to exploration you can compare it to the original Divine Divinity because both games are open. You can go almost everywhere and get murdered by some truly powerful monsters unless you are careful. There is very little guidance.
However, when it comes to combat I cannot really compare this game to anything else I played so far. Fighting feels intuitive and initially it even feels easy. I level up to about level 14 or higher in the demo feeling overpowered until I encountered a harpy at night and leshy which I just ran away from. It is often easy to kill mobs, but even low-level ones can murder you quickly if you are not careful. I got killed by a bunch of skeletons at night while carrying too much loot. They just ganged up on me and that was it.
Combat is rather fast and it hurts. Plus you always feel careful because you do lose your character and even though the next one your possess is similar to your lost character, his or her talents will be different. It is not the same as dying and reloading or respawning as in the other games. I am absolutely more careful about exploration here than in any other RPG I played so far.
