HELP BATMAN ARKHAM CITY GOTY WONT LAUNCH
So, I bought the GOTY edition of the game all wide-eyed in excitment in the Steam sale that's going on. Installed it, which took about a day, finally got through all the proccess, and tried to play it. On clicking the Steam shortcut it did some "First time setup" as per usual, then asked me whether I wanted to launch the game or look at options. However, upon trying to launch the game it does nothing. The Steam "Preparing to launch Arkham City" message pops up, then promptly dissapears, followed by nothing at all. No error messages to tell me what's happening, nothing at all, as though I hadn't even tried to launch the game. I've tried launching straight from the game install file's .exe, but it does nothing. However, using the RunLauncher.bat file in there does result in the launcher popping up, which lets me mess around with options, but on clicking play, once again, nothing happens. I tried launching the game through Steam with the task manager open, and the BatmanAC.exe process pops up for a split second, and then dissapears.

This is one of the most frustrating mistakes I've met in any game. Any possible help would be greatly appreciated.

Please try updating directX, as this might be a runtime error
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8109
Also re-install Windows Live Essentials:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-live/essentials-home
Please try the following:
1. Reinstall GFWL (http://www.xbox.com/EN-GB/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient). Then go to the following installation directory of the game. Under Win7 64bits should normally be here:
C: -> Program Files (x86) -> Steam -> steamapps -> common -> Batman AC -> Binaries -> Win32
For non-Steam versions of the game (bought on disc) go to C:\Program Files(x86)\WB Games\Batman - Arkham City\Binaries\Win32
Delete the file 'xlive.dll' which is visible there.
Try out the game please.
If GFWL menu does not appear, try this:
2. In Windows, go to Start> Control Panel. Open the Software icon> Change or Remove Programs (in WinXP) or Programe and functions (for Vista / 7) Locate the game in the list, click and select 'Repair'. Windows will fix the game, which can take about 20 minutes.
Start the game again.

Hi all, i just find the problem.

IF YOU USE Microsoft EMET on your PC, you must add batmanAC.exe int the opt-out list of application.

You can find the solution on this website:

same here... its annoyiung :/ like, it shows the launch menu thing, but i cant see anything due to black bars
Evolvia Jun 6, 2013 @ 7:43am
if you see black bar, your game is corrupt, use the option "verify cache files" to repair it.

I had similar issues, followed the advice here (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2451520) and now it works like a dream. Basically it's GFWL that is causing all the issues. But that often doesn't work properly as it needs other programs to be installed.

Wow nice necroing a dead thread and no one cares about your solution since you dont own the game, its still may not even work in Steam version because you're not using Steam version.

I know I am pretty damn late to this discussion... But I just bought this game and experienced a similar problem. The game initially worked fine but suddenly stopped launching, no error msg nothing. The problem is that the launcher file along with a few other files in the Win 32 folder(steam/steamapps/common/BatmanArkhamcity/Binaries/Win 32) gets deleted due to some reason and wont come back even with re installation. What I did was I installed the game on my laptop (which I dont use for gaming btw) and copied the Win 32 folder from there and replaced the Win 32 folder on my pc with that from the laptop.
