Windows 8 GFWL Fix!

If you are trying to play this game on Windows 8 but you can't because Games For Windows Live is not initializing, then do the following to fix it: Open Computer, click on C:/, go to Windows (NOT Program Files x86) then scroll about a third down to SysWOW64. In there, scroll all the way to the bottom and find the files xlive.dll, xlive.dll (security catalog) xlivefnt.dll, xliveinstall.dll and xliveinstallhost.exe. COPY all of those files into C:/ > Program Files x86 > Steam > steamapps > common > Batman Arkham City > Binaries > Win32. Now it should work. If you are me and have the retail version, then copy the files into C:/ >Program Files x86 > WB Games > Batman Arkham City > Binaries > Win32. Now it should work, have fun!

I was hoping this would solve my issue, but no luck. The game plays just fine, but it still doesn't launch Windows Live, save game progress, or unlock achievements. Hadn't heard back from Steam support since Friday either and am about to check-up on my ticket.

Try running the xliveinstallhost.exe from the Win32 folder. If that doesn't work then I haven't a clue, sorry!

that worked - in part - for me... now when I load the game, I get the GFWL pop-up asking me to log in; I put in my log-in info, then it asked for a product code (that I already activated when I created my GFWL account when I bought the game), only to tell me it's not valid, so I can't play anyway.... ♥♥♥♥ GFWL, it's a total piece of ♥♥♥♥.

Make certain that you are signing in to the correct online profile, and not a newly created offline or another online that the code is not associated with. This same thing happened for me, but I fixed it once I realized I was signing in with my Xbox Gold profile, not my GFWL that I activated AC on.

I'm sure I'm logging in with the right one... can't make a mistake there, I only have one GFWL account... I read that the game should be installed after GFWL has been installed.. I'm gonna try that, but I doubt it will work... getting really PO'ed here ~ at least your solution got me closer..

Well, my only question would be if your copy is used or otherwise illegally optained, that may be the reason for a faulty CD key. If you bought it from someone telling you it was new, then get them to give you a refund. If you bought it through STEAM, post a ticket on Steam's support, and Valve will most likely set you up with a new key.
