Fatal Error & Crash - Every Time
FINALLY!!!! Got it working.

Alright guys, basically you're going to want to download this tool:
https://github.com/pallando/gfwl-stripper/releases/tag/v2.0
then use it to convert your savegame files in:
C:\Users\(you)\Documents\Square Enix\Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY
and
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\(random numbers)\35140

I figured just deleting my old savegames would fix any savegame issues, but thanks to steams broken cloud support, it just redownloads the broken gfwl saves every time I start the game; EVEN WHEN THE 'enable steam cloud synchronization' BUTTON IS LEFT UNCHECKED!
so the ONLY way to play this is to download that save editor and convert the saves that steam keeps redownloading.

All my Batman games now work flawlessly.

hope that helps everyone.

-------------------original post--------------------
I just bought Arkham City and Asylum over the weekend. I got about 6 hours in City and an hour and a half into Asylum. I was currently playing Arkham City and I got stuck in a puzzle. Closed the game, looked it up on youtube, realized what to do, reopened the game, and suddenly I had a fatal error that crashes my game right after it tries to load the DLC. I tried opening Asylum and basically the same thing happens with a slightly different error. I can now run neither of these games because they crash every single time.
Before you give your "have you tried updating your graphics drivers?" responses: I tried every fix I can think of (rebooting, reinstalling game, verifying game cache, deleting/reinstalling registry entries, reinstalling directx, dotnet, games for windows live (which these games don't even use anymore), reinstalling vcredist, reinstalling graphics drivers, defragging my hard drive, running ccleaner, uninstalling the games with ccleaner and reinstalling, deleting my savegame, deleting my config files, running the game in administrator mode, running the game in compatibility mode, running the game in both administrator and compatibility mode, disabling steam cloud, running in offline mode, disabling physx, and a half ton other "fixes" people recommended online that did not work. I have no idea what the problem is but to the best of my knowledge it's not anything wrong with my computer. I definitely meet the minimum specs:
-windows 8.1 64 bit
-Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20 GHz
-8GB Dual-Channel DDR3 Ram @ 800MHz
-2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (MSI)

Now that all that's out of the way, does anyone have any solutions/fixes? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd really like to resume my gameplay. Thank you.

In my case it's the same. PC rebbot without crash screen.
It happens when I enter the sewers after finishing Solomon Grundy and following the ninja from the league of assasins.
16 GB of Ram. Last Radeon drivers....

Good luck, bro. If I ever figure out a fix I'll definitely post one here, but so far I've basically given up. I can't think of anything else to try.

He sido capaz de pasarme el juego al final. Se ha repetido el fallo varias veces. Para mi la solución ha sido salir de pantalla completa. Eso ha sido suficiente.

I've been able to finish the game in the end. I've experienced the bug several times. For me the solution has been in leaving the Fullscreen Off. That has been enough.

I hope this is helpful.

I just tried the Demo and can't get it to run. I really wanted to play this on PC even though I heat it on 360 years ago. But with all these issues I'm hearing, I think I just play it on console again and then the rest of the series on console as well.

I was really enjoying the 60 fps for Arkham City demo, but I won't purchase a game with this many issues.

Hi,
You are my hero! Although I still have one problem. I absolutely love Arkham Asylum & City but they both stopped working for me a while ago & I couldn't find any way to fix them. Yesterday I found this discussion & it totally worked for Arkham City! I have City fully working again!!! I'm, over the moon about that. However, I haven't been able to get this to work for Asylum. The issues I had with both games appear to be the same so it should work for Asylum. I think I may just be missing some of the files that I'm supposed to use this fix on. Can you please tell me all the potential locations that the file might be? It would be greatly appreciated.

Even if I can't get Asylum working, you are still my hero for helping me get City working again!
I can't thank you enough.

Hmm well it's been a while since I've messed with it but I'd try following these instructions:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=188089228

Also, do you have the GOTY version of the game? I believe the save data might be listed in a few different places based on your version of the game and your version of WIndows.
My files are listed in:
C:\Users\*username*\Documents\Square Enix\Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY
However, it looks like non-GOTY versions might have data stored in:
C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Documents\Eidos\Batman Arkham Asylum\SaveData
Older versions of WIndows (such as XP) would be 'My Documents' instead of 'Documents'

There may also be some potential savegame locations here:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/35140/discussions/0/792924412197874484/

Also may not hurt to wipe your game data entirely, along with your saved games (assuming you don't have anything too important saved), then remove registry entries for the game, then reboot the computer, re-install the game data, and then re-apply the savegame fix.

If none of that works, reply here and we might be able to do some more digging for you.
