Rendering Thread Exception - Why does this still exist?
I'm regularly confronted to CTDs with a rendering thread exception error message (see here: http://imgur.com/4dxk3Gp ).

I've googled this problem, and all reports date back to 2011 and this is supposed to have been patched since. I'm running Arkham City on an i5-4440, 8GB of RAM, and GTX 970. I'm pretty sure my PC can run this fine...

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

EDIT: I should mention that this crash so far only occurs when I go through a door into a new area (the Court, the GCPD HQ, the Church, etc.)

Hmmm...well if it is crashing when you enter doors maybe verify the game cache that may fix that but I'm not sure what else to say :\ Sorry

I've verified the cache quite a few times now. All files validated.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Well, it's an engine thing, which can be induced by a variety of causes. In your case, something went wrong with Visual C++ as indicated by the implication of the MSVCR90.DLL file.
(Edit - "MicroSoft Visual C Redistributable Version 90. Dynamic Link Library)
Visual C or another redistributable file is possibly damaged.

Upgrade/reinstall the GPU drivers, Visual C++ redistributables and Physx System software (Iincluded with Geforce drivers, but installed separately for others)
Try changing and/or reducing settings, esp related to DirectX 11 features, and physx. Turn it off if it's on, on if off, etc.

Thanks, Buck, I'll look into that.

Where would we find the right vc++ redistributable to reinstall?

I was getting that error earlier today, and now the game crashes whenever I try to use the "cure" to start one of the side missions.

I activated the DirectX things in the options menu, against nVidia Geforce Experience "optimized" recommendations, and have had a crash-free playthrough. Guess that teaches me to trust Experience.

Any necessary redistributables are usually included with the game. Should be in your Steam Library folder/steamapps/common/Batman Arkham City GOTY/Setup/folder.

You can also download it from Microsoft

They're just recommendations, use whatever settings work best for you.

Enabling DX11 features seems to have cleared it up for me as well... will continue to monitor to see if that's a permanent fix or not. Slight FPS cost, but if it keeps the game stable, it's worth it.
