First of all, textures were replaced. They didn't use higher versions of the same assets, just created new ones and some change the style of some places. Not only that, on PC some shadows have depth, in the remaster most of them are flatter.
Lighting looks better at first glance, but a lot of the shadows and light sources added are not dynamic, and look really fake when characters walk past them.
The remaster does not offer Physx and runs at 30fps.
Cutscenes also look worse on PS4.
So, honestly, I don't think we are missing much.
I once thought a remaster would be looking similar to Arkham Knight but when I say poor 'ol Hugo I decided to pass. -_-'
i want to have the option at least.
I can see buying it if you own a console (30 fps, slightly tuned down graphics), but the pc already had an advantage in the graphics department over the console. This release just makes the console version on par with the pc version.
Not really, makes it different.
Some textures on PC are already higher-res than what this new remaster has to offer.
They changed the textures, so they are different from the originals, while PC version has higher versions of the same original textures.
There are some better shadows here and there, but some don't work as they should, and performance is horrible on consoles.
Not only that, PC version has physx, which improve a lot the feeling of a less static world (if you have a nvidia card).
Not to mention they killed DOF pretending it was a choice to show how crisp the remaster is, but actually removes some of the original art design.
I would also say that the addition of AK rain in Asylum is just stupid and makes the impact of rain in AK go away, since you get to see the effect in the very first game. (and the effect is not very weel implemented, by the way.
