Won't launch, Windows 10
I tried setting the compatibility mode, and adding -windowed to the launch options, nothing seems to work. The game doesn't even really launch as nothing goes full-screen. I'm able to get the launcher up and go into Settings but the game won't launch.

someone posted this Dec 2020 on Steam forums about a different game but the issue might be what is happening (?)
"What I saw on Windows 10 when using the -nologo and -windowed game launch options, is that the Batman Arkham Knight program is looking for KERNELBASE.dll which is named kernelbase.dll and BatmanAK.exe which is named BatmanAK , with a whole bunch of attempts to open those files!!!! Thnkx Windows for "upgrading" naming conventions and not adding something like -i option in grep program that makes it case insensitive, effectively making game useless as it will endlessly search for "properly" named files! Perhaps a friendly programmer COULD update the proprietary Binary-scrambled code, with enough people bugging them about doing this, it might just happen. Was only able to get a screenshot of the error messages and not copy and paste! What a great upgrade! "

This fix looked promising but I don't understand some of the steps in Regedit:

" Open regedit
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\BatmanAC.exe
If the last entry, BatmanAC.exe, doesn't exist, just create it manually
Create a new value:
Name: DisableExceptionChainValidation
Type: DWORD
Data: 1 (encoding doesn't matter)

Relaunch the game! :) "

Do you get any error message when trying to boot the game up? If so please post what error message you get. Also check your anti virus as sometimes anti viruses will stop Batman Arkham city or asylum from running. If a required game file is captured by your anti virus you will need to create a exception for that game file.

I disabled Avira and it still wouldn't launch. (Reminds me of Fallout NV on Steam.) No I don't get an error message at all. Is there a Windows application that will log/list launch errors?

Have you tried to verify the games cache?

Have you ran the first time setup for the game by clicking configure before launching the game so that steam can install the required files for the game to work.

Yes, I tried verifying the files thru Steam, disconnecting my controller, and moving the game to my D drive, disabling Avira. Didn't work. I clicked on Configure and set the game to windowed mode too : \

What is your system specs?

I'm sure they are fine but i have to ask to see if possibly your machine may be the issue.

Have you made sure that your gpu drivers are running the latest drivers?

Have you made sure to update to the latest version of windows 10? As in installed all required updates.

Looking at your specs it seems your system meets the requirements

Check the temps of your system and reinstall drivers from nvidia for your gpu it might be a driver issue. Also if it’s not that try and clean your pc as dust and hair that collects in your pc can make your system unstable along with if you have low storage on your machine can make applications unstable.

Yes, my nVidia drivers are up-to-date. Windows 10 is up-to-date. I clean the inside of my PC pretty regularly, thank you. Most of my games have no issues [except Ghostbuster (original release, remaster works) and Fallout NV]. Storage.. I tried switching the drive the game was installed on and there was plenty of room empty on the hard-drives, thanks.

Have you tried disabling DX10?

disable DX10:
01. Locate DefaultEngine.ini here: Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ Batman Arkham City GOTY \ BmGame \ Config \ DefaultEngine.ini
02. Open DefaultEngine.ini with NotePad
03. Locate "AllowD3D10=True" and change True to False
04. Save file and restart computer

if that doesnt work have you tried manually updating your physx?
