Unpassable barrier.
I think my game might have an issue and I don't think I can do anything about it. After leaving GCPD for the first time, when moving past a certain point I lose all control over Batman. It's not my keyboard, it's not my controller, and I have the issue on both my PC and laptop. It's a wall barrier that stretches from left to right over an entire space which when passed makes me lose control. I have no idea how to fix it.

Congrats! Glad to hear my suggestion helped. I don't know exactly what triggers the anti piracy stuff so can't comment on exactly why those saves might have been weird, maybe it adds something to them, I dunno.

Enjoy the rest of the game and nice of you to post back with a positive result.

Sucks to run into anti piracy stuff then post on the steam forum when you don't own the game eh?

Looks pretty sus.

I uuh, think you see that the game isn't in my library?

I play via family share, so checkmate there.
I'm not dumb enough to ask for help after I'd illegally obtain a game.
Either way, after contacting customer support, they can't help me either. Guess I can't enjoy the game then.

Just saying it looks sus when you don't have the 'has Arkham City' icon next to your name.
This is an anti piracy feature in Arkham city. Do a little Google search, you'll see Rocksteady made it so the player randomly loses control of the character if they detect pirated software.

I saw you had another topic when you couldn't get it to run, so if you are running a legit copy its possible you messed it up when you tried to fix it. Could just be a corrupt download.

If you own it legitimately like you say do a full uninstall and reinstall, that might fix any bad files and stop the anti piracy effect triggering, these things can result in false positives if the game files get corrupt and it incorrectly flags it as pirated.

If you can't do that then, well looks pretty sus bro, thats all I'm saying.

Again, I can promise you that it's a legal copy. I know about the anti-piracy stuff in Arkham Asylum (where you can't use your cape to glide) but haven't heard anything about Arkham City. Nonetheless, my copy is not pirated. If there' any way to prove this i'll try to.

With full uninstall, do you mean also deleting the files? If you mean just reinstalling via steam, then that didn't fix anything.

Sure, but to be frank, your promise means very little to me just like any promise I made you would mean nothing to you. We are just strangers on an internet forum.

Hopefully, if it is legit, I've told you a means to repair it. Otherwise at least you know why you are getting the issue. Best of luck to you.

As I previously asked, what do you mean by full uninstall and reinstall? What does that contain? Is it just a casual uninstall and reinstall or do I need to undergo further steps?

Oh my bad, I missed that question.
Uninstall the game from Steam, make sure there are no files left in the folder the game is saved.
Then install again.

Will do. I reinstalled it after removing the binary folder, but I'll be sure to remove all folders if it doesn't work next time.

Heya! Just quickly wanted to fill you in on everything I've done since last time.
I removed the binary folder and reinstalled the game, which didnt seem to fix it. Then I just started a new save and somehow it works now!
I believe maybe the anti piracy was triggered on those two saves, or I just was the unluckiest person alive and got two save files corrupted in the exact same manner.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Layynah, make certain that your contact and payment information is updated and correct on that shared account. Normally any discrepancies might prevent you from even launching the game, but this time it might have triggered a false security positive. Also try reducing in-game screen resolution from maximum to avoid setting bad checkpoints, and perhaps run the game with PhysX disabled. You can do both of those from inside the Launcher > Settings.

I play this game through family sharing too and have run into the same problem as OP so don’t be such a condescending d!ck passive aggressively accusing people of pirating, it’s an old game running out dated anti pirating software that probably never took stuff like family sharing into account
