Game crashes after "Press start".
So, after playing Arkham Knight for a while, I decided to re-install Arkham City. Figured I'd give Arkham's best another go around.

Unfortunately, the game crashes just after the start screen. It doesn't even make it to save game selection. Here's a picture of the error I receive after the game crashes:

I've done all the usual stuff like keep my drivers up to date and verify the integrity of the game cache, but nothing helps. I found a few threads online reporting similar issues, but they all seem to be a couple years old. They suggested disable things like PhysX, re-installing PhysX, and cutting graphical settings down, but I haven't found a solution yet.

Anyone ever have this problem?

My specs are:

GTX 1050
Intel i7-7700 at 2.8GHz.
16GBs of RAM
Windows 10.

I tried many things but nothing seemed to work. The thing that did seem to work was opening the library in steam, right-click game and open properties, click updates and re-enabling my steam cloud syncronization at the bottom. hope that helps

Hey OP, try to force certain things to redownload.

In your screenshot follow the file path into binaries and delete this folder. "Binaries"

From your screenshot directory I'm seeing the path as...

D:/x86/steamapps/common/BatmanArkhamGOTY/Binaries <-- Delete the binaries folder and redownload it from steam.

Verify the game cache and you'll get the files you just deleted added back. Since this is where your errors are happening It's better to get the one section readded in case there was an error in the initial download.

This part is important. We need you in the Launcher NOT the game.

Go to library on steam click play on BM AC GOTY to get the launcher.

Configure PC Options then set your preferences from there. Click Settings. Don't know what the issue could be just yet so just set it to whatever you'd like but Scroll all the way down and turn off the hardware accelerator phyx at the bottom. Then apply and start the game.

Report back to me here and tell me if you get an error.

If so, what dx version are you using? and if not then you should be playing the game. :D

Holy sheet. It worked. I'm not sure what relevance Steam sync has to anything performance-wise, but re-enabling it lets me move past the main menu and into the game. Thanks for the help.

Lunch Lady, if the Steam sync thing doesn't hold out, I'll give your solution a shot.

Good. I'm glad the easier option worked. It should be good though, shouldn't get anymore things that stop you from playing. Have fun!
