Still just ER lasers to win?
I didn't play long at release because there was only one good build (ER small lasers). Is this still the case, or are other weapons now as good?

Assuming you can deal with the constant crashes and U/I mechlab nightmare (yes they made it even worse, now you have to create a template just to strip items off of a mech) in order to actually add ER lasers to your custom build: the answer is yes.

i dunno i just click edit loadout, make changes and save new preset, no stripping involved its part of the changes
Er small lasers got a small nerf. My dire wolf build that has 15 er small before the update did 23.81 dps per the screen shots. It now does 20.55 dps. But on a side note they buffed the med pulse lasers. My 14 med pulse dire wolf did 25.79 dps and after the update it does 29.47 dps. I wish I had the info on the other weapons before the update but I can verify those two. The med pulse are OP now. On Trueborn setting my 14 med pulse dire only takes two full alpha strikes to core the atlas in the center torso on the shooting range.

Missing the forest for the trees. Yes you CAN make a simple edit and save that as a new template. But now you have to make a new template for every change you make (or save over the old one). So for those who say strip all the mechs at the beginning to rebuild them more efficiently without having to buy new components (because they can use the components off of the unused mechs in their inventory) have to save five strip templates, then have to build the mechs how they want and save those as templates as well before they can apply the changes to the actual usable mech. If you tinker around the edges making just one change at a time to a mech then hop back into the game it is not so bad (though still worse than the MW5 mechlab) but if you min/max or just have a style of build you really like that is not in the variants, you are going to be spending even more time than before the DLC, in the mech lab, clicking away to do what used to be as simple as dragging and dropping.

eeeh, i rebuild all the mechs as well and maybe that would be useful but you get so much money that trying to reuse components is just wasting time imho.

i think the new system is good, but i can see how in your ultra minmaxing all the resources scenario it takes a little longer to do what you want to do.

MPLs and SPLs both trump ERSLs in most circumstances. Honestly, weapons are fairly well balanced as long as you're focused on weapons that have max ranges of 200m-900m AFTER research. Longer ranges just aren't as necessary in this as in the board game, partially because you don't have to-hit mods from range.
I swear by the AC/10 Ultra solid slugs - click your way through the enemy with ruthless efficiency
ER ZLasers got nerfed... ballistics got buffed. The UAC10 slugs pretty crazy
idk I've been rocking ERPPCs since release and they've been fairly good at deleting people before they put a lot of damage on your star, especially if a lot of the star is rolling with that kind of build. No idea how much the lasers got nerfed or not though
