Mia has none for light mechs and is on purpose.
Melee is used by AI even if you don't use it the AI will use melee attacks unless there are no fists available.
A melee attack would eventually knock out a mech. In conclusion the mech is defeated as the pilot skull is crushed when the mech falls to the ground. We don't choose physics of the universe but they're working.
Think of it as pendle the mech back and forth until the gyro can't stable the balance.
Melee is used to kick the tanks when you walk on them. Still it would be a good thing if damage reduction could be made when kicking down a building.
It's not well thought out since the differences would be between walking through a building and fist the building.
When you walk through objects you deal damage on the mech. To prevent it you attack the object. It may not show but you do gain damage on the mech when you walk through objects.
To reduce damage to your legs the damage is transfered to the hand. It's technically a lot more practical for a light mech to use melee than an assualt. Since it's free damage and light mechs don't have 100 armor in the legs.
The clans didn't use melee as much as inner sphere and it's as well mentioned as barbaric. In some ways the clans became softhearted by only challenge their own mechs. But in desperate times when all weapons are gone you may as well start to hammer with your fists like a jungle man in lion cloth.
If there's anyone with a free afinity on Yuichi they could have a look
Have you played the older games? Maybe even mechcommander II lol.... pilots had affinities with different mechs/weight classes. It's so you try to give them the right mech to boost em. If this was RL every pilot wouldn't be the same either.
