What is your definition of "support"? Because HOTAS is definitely *not* supported.
Was super hyped to play some 5 player co-op campaign with my friends only to have wasted hours of my weekend trying to troubleshoot the garbage keybinding setup so that I could use my HOTAS (X52 Pro).

I had to dig through forums for other people's config files to see if I could piggyback on their forced labour - nope, assuming the PID or VID or whatever is wrong but how the hell is this even an ISSUE?! HOTAS is not supported if I have to find someone else's configs that they've done up. HOTAS is not supported if I have to spend time trying to figure out my HOTAS PID to type it into a config file hidden in the AppData folder.

If I have to mess with config files, including setting certain files to "Read only" so I don't lose my keybindings if/when I did actually get them to work - THAT IS NOT SUPPORT.

I literally never got it to work and rather than lose my $$ because of this outright lie I elected to refund.

Dude, learn to read, even the Store Page says "Partial Controller Support" listed. HOTAS has never been in the focus, it is only available if you're tech-savvy and know how to setup specific workarounds. If you go here and scroll down you can also read some stuff: https://mw5clans.com/resources?support

I'll quote:
We have updated MechWarrior 5: Clans to recognize numerous additional controller peripherals. Please note that while the game will recognize the products listed, not all have been tested and may require configuration through the HOTASMappings.Remap file. The supported products include...

Dude, I'm well read and having seen what they constitute as even "partial" support is flat out not support. If it's a FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION out of FOUR FAQs I'd say that's got some focus put into it but go on and back up that statement about it not being a focus.

I'll quote the definition of support: "give assistance to, especially financially; enable to function or act."

They do not give assistance, it is not enabled to function (as you said, one must be tech-savvy and you have to change a file to read only otherwise you'll lose that function).

Not only that, but MW5: Clans *doesn't recognize controller peripherals* because there is only one HOTAS config remap file and it apparently auto defaults to the Thrustmaster T1600 from which you have to develop your own remap file or as I said, piggyback on the work of others and hope your PID matches theirs.

What an absolute asinine thing to come in and try and defend..

If you take a consumer warning as "tears of lost immersion" I definitely can't help you, though I would encourage you to step away from the keyboard and reflect on how you choose to engage with the world.

When the game literally claims to "support" these products - a fact laid out in your quoted content above - then a warning to others is warranted. Your bizarre emotional reactions aside.

Do you ever read anything beyond the word "support"? You know, there are more words that follow, they form sentences, these sentences have meanings, these meanings can be understood by humans. So far, the only bizarre behaviour is your exaggerated overreactions which will help nobody. All the time wasted here could've been put to good use quietly tinkering with the remap files :]

If you have something constructive to add, then I would suggest you get to it. So far you've been trolling and baiting and insulting without anything remotely of substance to add.

If you'd paid attention, I laid out the steps I took to work around the *lack of any support* in the original post. Otherwise, I'd encourage you to move on.

That's exactly the advice you should've followed yourself, but you just had to come here and post a futile complaint even though you don't own the game anymore. Your logic? You cling to a word "support" and ragepost about some of your personal interpretations. People who really want to play this game with HOTAS are capable of manually setting stuff up to play this game with HOTAS, but you've just given up... so you simply don't deserve it, I guess.

You're trying to gatekeep the Discussion forums now?

Are you okay?

Guess immersion comes at a cost. I just use my keyboard.

No, I'm just having fun replying to a silly topic, and you're just taking everything too close to heart.

Sorry you're struggling mate, I hope you can find a healthier outlet for happiness than trolling.

Certainly isn't something I would have expected had they not specifically claimed even partial support for it. That said, given joysticks have been around since the dawn of gaming you'd think they'd be able to do simple keybindings like any of the countless sim or sim lite games out there.

Some games i have played have weird as keyboard layout still i think your asking to much from a niche.

Sure, but you can at least rebind keys in most games without having to find a config file and then discern the manufacturer of your keyboard and then literally create a config file specific to that manufacturer and product ID. I have been doing flight sims, space sims, all manner of niche games for over 30+ years and never encountered so Byzantine a process as this - particularly when they are claiming to support at least some HOTAS systems.

HOTAS is not a good control system for mech games anyway, never really has been (well, maybe worked quite well in MW2:Mercs).

I love my Warthog for flight / space sims, but KB & mouse is just simply better for this.
Casually Corrosive Oct 22, 2024 @ 11:25pm
because full hotas support has never been in any mechwarrior game. the sim people have always just hacked their way to make it functional. i imagine its a waste of dev time and money to bother setting it up for the tiny % of gamers that even own a joystick never mind a full hotas setup. Unless you're somebody that regularly plays flight sims i dont see why anybody would even own a joystick anymore.
