Anyway, for the Dire Wolf, I put 3 PPCs on one arm, 4 med pulse lasers on the other, and 2 SRM6+Artemis in the right torso.
DW probably has an SRM bug, because one of the launchers sends the missiles into the ground if you aren't aiming at point-blank or at a target above you. I didn't have this problem in the TW.
I found that the spread on the normal LBX is so severe that they're basically pointless, and ammo pet-slot on missile weapons is way under-tuned for the amount of enemies in the missions.
I did have 6 LBX2 BurstFire at one point but uhh... pulling the trigger on those tanked my FPS and bugged out my weapon UI lol.
Was pretty funny though. Chewed through Assaults in seconds by sheer volume of fire.
Got a clip where it shredded an Awesome so hard it got launched into the atmosphere on death.
But the LBX5 is where I ended up. Scattershot too. Don't like the slugs.
With proper research and upgrades, the spread, fire rate and damage of the LBX5s are quite good.
4 of them chained together is essentially a never ending stream of shots with no cooldown between.
Range was never an issue because the game kinda forces engagements at close range.
Don't think I ever ran a mission where I outranged the AI outside of 2 specific scripted sequences.
You will 2 or 3-shot most assault mechs and you can hit out as far as enemies spawn. Game is way too easy doing this though so my second playthrough will take something a little more sensible.
The low ammo count per ton for SRMs didn't really bother me until the final couple of missions of the entire game. Mainly because those missions are simply too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ long relative to every other mission that came before, and have too few ammo crates/repair centers.
It's also a late-game issue because when you (spoiler alert?) start to have clan mechs as your enemy, they take far more damage than IS mechs did. I'm not sure if it's because of the unusual shape many clan mechs have that spreads damage around, or if it's just because they get every bonus to damage resistance that we can get.
P.s My favourite was the Timber wolf reasonably fast for it's weight played big chunk of the game with that simple load out 6 MP lasers 2 groups of 3 constant laser spam never overheated and 2 racks of ssrm6 . Little boring but again effective.
I know most people consider it to be one of the worst clan mechs, and that fuels my motivation to wreck face with it.
It's basically a slightly smaller, faster Warhammer XD
I kept Liam in a Hellbringer to get the most of his ECM bonuses. It's a shame there's no ECM assaults.
I also dislike how the game functionally forces you to pilot only assault mechs as soon you HAVE assault mechs simply due to the massive quantity of enemy spawns you have to grind through.
It's all about free weight.
Executioner mounts a larger (heavier) engine because its base speed is faster than the DW's. Add to that the weight of MASC and jets.
It means the DW can not only mount more weapons, larger weapons, it can also mount a lot more armor and heat sinks to fire said weapons more frequently.
For endgame sniping builds, the DW is (by a wide margin) the best mech in the game.
The Timber Wolf can go 89 KPH (with speed upgrade) all the time, without needing to use MASC. It also has more free weight than the Executioner. And you can use the TW variant with jump jets. So it basically can do everything the Ex can do, but it's more maneuverable because it's lighter.
