I could also see it as being very frustrating to players given how badly Smoke Jag got spanked by the phone company. Just take a casual glance at the threads dominating the front page where players who are totally unfamiliar with the lore from B-Tech are getting very salty about Clanners acting like Clanners and Omnimechs working like Omnimechs.
If I could offer a preview of the threads we will see when/if a Tukayyid DLC releases:
"WTF??!?!?! I'm the best Mechwarrior evar! Why did I lose the last mission?!>?!@?!?"
Though, to be fair, that is a very clan like reaction.
I think if Piranha managed to make the "last stand" moment where you die in a blaze of glory sufficiently epic, people would be okay with it. The issue is the "climactic" situations in this campaign seem to consist of "Heavy/assault lance drops on you right at the end when you're low on armor/ammo". Even the last missions were pretty much standard engagements but back-to-back with the typical number of mechs on field.
I feel the only way to do the Jags justice is to have them get proper spanked on screen, your star included. For someone aware of the lore, anything else would feel incomplete/a cliffhanger. Epic moments like Dietr Osis's death happening offscreen and Sarah Weaver being significantly present yet without getting any actual conclusion feel very half-assed.
Without the Jags seeing their penultimate end, the campaign just felt like you could swap in any other clan and nothing would've changed. There was nothing uniquely Smoke Jaguar about it besides when the characters verbally insisted this was the clan you were playing as.
I would pay full price for DLC to see Sarah Weaver and her absolutely obnoxious, childish emotional outburst to get vaporized.
The entire command team in this game is so.... theater kid like.... It's like the Disney team that was in charge of writing Marvel movie dialog was hired for this game.
Thats literally the battle tech lore. Thats literally clanners and their leadership moreso.
Then there is also the problem that we're actually missing a good few Mechs that took part on both sides. PGI really needed to complete SLDF 2750 roster.
In books, novellas, and some of the subtext/stories you find in the Total Warfare and Alpha Strike Commander's books the clans are portrayed at stoic warriors. Sometimes over the top but still that "my duty is to my clan, honor, warrior culture, blah blah".
Not this corny portrayal we're getting in the game.
Don't get me wrong, I like the game, the cutscenes are really nice looking, and it's cool seeing a localized version of a story we all know the ending to... but dude... The dialog and insane over acting is brutal.... Sarah's actor/voiceactor is the biggest offending party. Same with Galaxy commander Perez.... Like take it down a notch, Daniel Day Lewis.
I've read every Battletech novel from "Decision at Thunder Rift" to "Bonfire of Worlds"
Not all clanners are stoics. Some of have a sense of humor like Natasha Kerensky, some are vicious psychopaths like Malvena Hazen, most of them are average. Yeah they do strut around and act tough among the lower caste but they are very human
