I'm really liking how they did the system in this game tbh
People said that about the mercs mech lab, for the first like 2 years it was out people would just go on and how about how much the mech lab sucked compared to MWO.
Mechwarriors just have braindamage from too much time baking in the cockpit and have trouble adapting to new things so they stomp their feet and call it bad till they forget they spent 2 years calling it bad and now suddenly its the gold standard. The mechlab is more than fine and actually fun to play with once you're used to it.
People also complained about the MWO mechlab and i wish i was joking. There was about 3 years where complaints about the MWo mechlab were common. So yeah again... mechwarrior players tend to be a bit on the slow side so they don't like change.
So its clear i've been a mechwarrior fan for about 3 decades, I'm not insulting other people i'm just stating the facts that the fanbase historically hates to learn to do new things. From mech 2 till now theres always been people saying "BUT THE LAST ONE WAS THE BEST AND THIS ONE SUCKS"
