I get your disappointment with this game, but I just don't share that disappointment.
Besides that, I'm looking for a Mech Warrior game with AI companions and not a multiplayer experience; the singleplayer experience is all that I'm interested in.
Plus the way this game updates is how most Unreal Engine based games update. Been a known thing for a while now.
Plus you can always have both experiences. I've played Mercs to exhaustions. I never actually finished it, got kinda lost in the hunt for mechs and eqipment and then the story-DLCs got releases and I quite liked them, even if their presentation was a far cry from what Clans brings to the table.
I also never really got into modding. Lately I've watched a Baradul video which was already a year old and he was grabbing mission types I've never seen, piloting clan mechs. So I guess modding got rather big with that one. One day I'll give it another look maybe, especially since Clans is a one and done campaign (I do hope for more singleplayer content later down the road though).
Oh...we got the variants for free, you sure? Well I didn't expect mthat, thought they are part of the paid DLC. If it's true than kudos to Piranha actually. I still weont buy the DLC since there is nothing in there that interestes me, apart maybe from the omni variants and I was rather bitter that those where supposed to be behind the paywall, too...which isn't the case it seems. :)
It literally fixed nothing for me. Performance is still terrible, and HOTAS is affecting mouse function.
The free update gives you a couple of variants you can unlock, of which I think only the Mad Dog S is Canon, haven't checked the P variants of the other chassis if they are legit. It also updates the UI of the game to show DLC's, and the new simpod, though of course you can expect the DLC content to be locked out until you buy it.
The hero variants and camo are part of the DLC.
Can't say that I am, true. The thing I do remember is that Call of Duty games tended to have rediculously large patches, but those are neither UE4 nor UE5.
