MechWarrior 5: Clans vs Mercenaries – Battle Immersion and Damage Model Comparison
I might be alone in this, but I find the battles and damage model in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries far more immersive than in MechWarrior 5: Clans. Clans definitely has the edge in graphics, but my experience feels more like just taking down one mech after another without much challenge. The damage model also doesn’t seem as refined as it is in Mercenaries.

I agree, this game does not feel like Mechwarrior, not sure how far you are in the game, but they added bloody bosses that you have to kill using special zones... I mean really... in mechwarrior... In my opinion they effed it up so much in comparison with Mercenaries. Mechs do not have mechs feeling at all...

I've played through MechWarrior 5: Clans, experiencing both Mia's and Ezra's paths.

I think the story and sequences are well done.

However, the feeling of piloting a Mech, the impact of hits on enemies, the damage model, and the AI companions' behavior all come across as pretty basic. And I completely agree— the boss fights are disappointing.

It would be amazing if we could see armor melting or lasers piercing through Mechs once the armor is breached.

Or if parts of a Mech continued to burn after being hit by a flamethrower—something that sticks to the surface and deals continuous heat damage.

Also I'm missing that the enviornment does not have affect on the overall heat management of the mech... yes if you are in water, the cooling is much better but even here I would like to see that the water is vaporising.

I also miss more environmental effects on heat management. Sure, cooling is better in water, but it would be great if we saw the water vaporizing as a result.

The cockpit could also show damage, like cracks, after impacts from lasers or projectiles.

Everything feels to arcade somehow... However, compared to Mercenaries, which doesn't even have these features, the damage model in Clans still feels very basic.

You must not have played much mechwarrior games then, you had to kill freaking Dropship in Mechwarrior 2 also and in my memory they were a pain to kill, Mechwarrior 4 mercenaries also had dropship to kill that were also hard to kill packed with weapons. Those *bosses* are pretty easy compare to it and i play on max difficulty.
