Twitch is not a accurate metric to govern sales of games
I never claimed that either
Being free on Gamepass probably would have hurt overall sales, but I dont know if they are included, and get reimbursed by Microsoft or not for that
37 to 88k sales estimated at 50 bucks each?
do the math...
I doubt we will be seeing much more of this. maybe 1 quickly slapped together dlc if were lucky....
They get paid by Microsoft for games on GamePass. All game devs on GamePass do. Don't know the exact metrics but it is something like based on the number of installs/play time, etc.
Now, next time these story lunatics demand another game in the franchise, just point them to this steaming pile of failure.
We could be enjoying a sandbox game with Clan mechs based on Mercs with lots of new systems to play around, but we ended up with a 20 hour buggy mess that has no replay-ability, no modding, terrible performance, and the same old mission design as we had in Mercs, just with voice acting and cut scenes and a fancy "scan mode". All the things that are new are gimmicks in Clans. It was a mistake to listen to the story lunatics.
MechWarrior at it's core is a SIMULATION, not a interactive movie. Mercs is much closer to a Mech simulation than Clans ever can be, that's why it failed. And the people that want more story are in the wrong genre, go play Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk, or read the frigging BattleTech lore with it's plenty novels. MechWarrior is and will always be a simulation first, story 2nd game. We played MW2, 3 and 4 because the gameplay and simulation of driving a giant mech was the selling point, not the darn mission briefing.
Rant over.
Let's be real though, MechWarriors Mercs wasn't that good either.
Indeed it was not the best one, but with additional mods and some improvement it pretty fun to play as a simulator. I think they wanted to make more in Mercs, but for some reason did not want to continue - but provided tools for mods.
