Gargoyle wastes excessive tonnage on a 400XL Engine and an additional 6 fixed DHS.
Executioner wastes 12 Tons of weight on fixed Jump Jets and MASC.
End result is you have Mechs lighter than them both that can carry more firepower while having similar or in the Gargoyle's case, more, protection than them both.
I'm not saying they are the best mechs in the world but there are plenty of options for different play styles. If you just want to tank and spank run all Direwolf laser boats and ZZZ through the game.
I can stack a star of Nova's with ErSLsr and get the same result.. Being able to cheese the game is neither here nor there and detracts from the Discussion of Real Omni Pods that can be used between different chassis in each weight class as opposed to the nightmare we have now.
EDIT: On second thought.. your post actually does prove a point.. It doesn't matter how Restrictive you make the Mechlab.. Jethro Still gonna Cheezit...
Also.. Changing pods is instant.. but changing the Load Out of a pod should take time just as it does for changing a Mechs loadout in the IS.
The weapon mounts were supposed to be modular as well to make it easier to swap out damaged systems.
I can understand the Dimentia fit someone must have had in PvP when Jethro put 50 MG on his Atlas but that's just the Nature of Jethro... and the Apex of Cheese builds.
You could take away the Mechlab completely and Jethro will just rock a star of Timberwolf S and still Cheezit.
All you've managed to do is stifle ACTUAL creativity... Jethro don't give a hoot...
End Hard Point Restrictions Now!
Exactly.
Now, do I want full control over mech customization? Dear lord yes I do, as I feel the tabletop canon configs that were introduced in the early 90's were horribly optimized (you know, much like this game itself hehe) but I certainly appreciate what PGI did here (the restrictions, not the lack of programming optimization)
I just did the mission where you fight the warcriminal. Was just brawling the entire time had basically no head armor by the time I got to him. My lancemates were all at 80% still. Took a missile salvo and was out of AMS ammo. Mission failed.
Brawling in this game is so fun. It's probably gonna happen again.
