Gargoyle and Executioner subpar at best.
Gargoyle and Executioner subpar at best.
Why would I take an 80 ton mech with less firepower than a 35 ton mech? Or a 95 Ton mech with less firepower than a 55 Ton Mech?

It's telling when all the other mechs easily get Gold Damage but these two have issues breaking Silver damage..

Supposedly Hardpoint Restrictions give the different Mechs Nuance.. well the Nuance is that these Mechs are useless without Unrestricted Hardpoints which is the whole point of "omni pods".. unless you would like some restrictions on top of your restrictions.. with a side of restrictions of course...

The Omni Pod System by the way DOESN'T work like this.. it means the Mounting Hardware for the Arms are Universal and you can zip the arms off a Hellbringer and put them on a Madcat to make it a D for example.. as quickly as changing a Tire.

As it is the omi pods feel arbitrary, like an extra meaningless layer of restriction.. that may as well not even be there.

Apparently after FASA sold the game those other companies said the omnipods had those hardpoints and no others. Or maybe it was something FASA decided later on. I do know in my 3050 Tech Readout what you say is true. But enough people have said this changed that I believe them.

Simple answer is you wouldn't, not in a game like this anyway.
Gargoyle wastes excessive tonnage on a 400XL Engine and an additional 6 fixed DHS.
Executioner wastes 12 Tons of weight on fixed Jump Jets and MASC.
End result is you have Mechs lighter than them both that can carry more firepower while having similar or in the Gargoyle's case, more, protection than them both.

IMO Omni Mechs should Roll in to the Drop Deck without Arms and be Choosing them Like Thunderbird 2 Chooses it's Cargo Pod before Launch. It's the whole point of that System we were sold.. and then I can put Warhawk or Dire Wolf arms on a Gargoyle or Executioner and vice versa. There's a reason the Side Profile of the Omni Mechs had the Arms Omitted for Clarity in the 3050 Tech Readout...

The Gargoyle is the best assault... Warhawk close second. It's my mainstay mech and I just 100% completed this game on expert. ER Meds and stack armour and heatsinks. It is fast and disects mechs with ease. Executioner and Direwolf are just too fecking slow and get wrecked very quickly.

I used the Executioner for the last half of the game and played it like the guy at the end of Scarface with the shotgun. Order the star one direction, I go another. They pull the aggro, I pop up over a building and cripple the rear torso armor, land and MASC to the next cover spot. Rinse, repeat. Worked really well.

I'm not saying they are the best mechs in the world but there are plenty of options for different play styles. If you just want to tank and spank run all Direwolf laser boats and ZZZ through the game.

I can stack a star of Nova's with ErSLsr and get the same result.. Being able to cheese the game is neither here nor there and detracts from the Discussion of Real Omni Pods that can be used between different chassis in each weight class as opposed to the nightmare we have now.

EDIT: On second thought.. your post actually does prove a point.. It doesn't matter how Restrictive you make the Mechlab.. Jethro Still gonna Cheezit...

Also.. Changing pods is instant.. but changing the Load Out of a pod should take time just as it does for changing a Mechs loadout in the IS.

The weapon mounts were supposed to be modular as well to make it easier to swap out damaged systems.

You've got to laugh at it though.. the whole situation here has come to a head... you have Dominatrix Levels of Restrictions in the Mechlab and Jethro can still Cheezit... Jethro will always win.

I can understand the Dimentia fit someone must have had in PvP when Jethro put 50 MG on his Atlas but that's just the Nature of Jethro... and the Apex of Cheese builds.

You could take away the Mechlab completely and Jethro will just rock a star of Timberwolf S and still Cheezit.

All you've managed to do is stifle ACTUAL creativity... Jethro don't give a hoot...

End Hard Point Restrictions Now!

Exactly.
I think it only feels restrictive to the extent that we all got used to the MW2 TO MW5:M mechlabs. I actually enjoy the way the omnipods are setup (it's the UI that I detest). The hardpoint system MW4 introduced was the first taste we had of each mech (of the same weight class) actually trying to be a unique chassis, but it's only the MW5 games (though mercs was still a bit liberal about it) that really put what would amount to personalities into the different chassis.

Now, do I want full control over mech customization? Dear lord yes I do, as I feel the tabletop canon configs that were introduced in the early 90's were horribly optimized (you know, much like this game itself hehe) but I certainly appreciate what PGI did here (the restrictions, not the lack of programming optimization)

They are lore accurate and in lore they are pretty bad. But it’s what smoke jaguar took with them for the invasion in lore so that’s what we get.
swordsman422 Nov 6, 2024 @ 3:55pm
I think it really depends on play style what mechs are effective. Like, the Timberwolf will always be my first love, but in Mechwarrior and on TT, I am far better with the speed, mobility, and (depending on ruleset) crit potential of the Summoner.

Does gargoyle have access to that 16 lasers setup you can do in MWO ? xD

Don't sleep on the Executioner. You can use the EXE to jump jet cruise @ 100kph. MW5:Mercs has this same nifty feature. I'd say an assault getting to an entirely different vantage point in the same amount of time it takes a medium is not something to overlook.

I just did the mission where you fight the warcriminal. Was just brawling the entire time had basically no head armor by the time I got to him. My lancemates were all at 80% still. Took a missile salvo and was out of AMS ammo. Mission failed.

Brawling in this game is so fun. It's probably gonna happen again.

Executioner is useless, you get some shots into the center and you are done.

Ulric Kerensky must have been a GOD to get bloodnamed and become Khan while piloting this garbage.
