What do you need help with?

As the update states:
Just place your 512x512 or smaller .PNG file into UserAssets/NoseArt/New

Example: Place your new .PNG file into C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\B-17 Flying Fortress The Mighty 8th Redux\UserAssets\NoseArt\New\ And then load up the game.

The folder has an sample file in there already named "Angry Bomb.PNG"

The black background in Angry Bomb.PNG disappears when viewed in game but my attempts still show the background colour whether black or white. What step am I missing?

The png image has to have an alpha channel with a transparent background.

yeah if u creating your own image you need to know how to create png files, and have a program that can do it (a free one is GIMP but you will need to watch tutorials on how to do it, there may be other free programs that are not so complex)

Thanks for the quick response, much appreciated. I'll investigate as suggested. Cheers.

Thanks for the tip. It works like a charm (older version of Paint Shop Pro whereby you assign the transparent layer with a layer tool). I got it sorted although have found that most nose art should be in the area of 150 x 150 so as not to appear huge on the aircraft. Thanks again.

I find roughly 350 high is the sweet spot, and it's also a good idea to always do 512x512 overall because the image will stretch to fit the area regardless otherwise.

Understood, thanks.

I'm having trouble with the nose art. I have alpha channel images and I have adhered to the size limitations. I put the images into the proper file location but when I start the game they are not recognized. Any suggestions?

Jaw; I'm using Paintshop Pro (older version) which allows me to assign "Transparent Layers" which I have to assume are the Alpha channels. I'm not an expert. Here's a couple of things that tripped me up: 1. Double check the size. I assumed resizing to 512 would be a no brainer but in symmetrical sizing if either the width or the height is over 512 the image won't show. 2. Save as a .png file. Obvious I know but I saved as a .jpg out of habit the first time. 3. Check that you've merged your layers prior to assigning the transparent 'bits' of your image. I've successfully transposed a bunch of my IL2 1946 nose art over to B-17. Hope this helps. BTW, if you only want the nose art on one side then save one copy (either stbd or port) as a blank version with the appropriate nose art file name (hope that makes sense).

And, jaw, if you're on the game's Discord and still having trouble post a sample there and ask someone to puzzle it out.

I use GIMP and it's very straight forward. I open the picture, scale it if needed, resize the canvas, add an alpha channel, cut the background, reposition the image where i want it, and export as a png without changing any settings.

Well, chalk it up to being an old guy. somehow I didn't add the alpha layer when I made the nose art. Also, new user to GIMP. My old copy of Paintshop Pro is gone to the ages. Thanks to all for the help!
If you go to the Microprose discord channel for the game I personally have added a downloadable file of 25 various art pieces and almost finished with a second 25. There are others there also.
