Help with adjusting drift during bombing run

When locked on a target. I move my joystick left or right and see no adjustment for drift. I hit "N" and move joystick left or right and see no adjustment of drift. I am trying to figure out the proper way to adjust for drift. Rate does adjust up and down when I use the joystick it just seems nothing is happening for drift (left or right). Any help would be fantastic.

i think the button needs to be held down while making inputs.

After switching to manual mode, the drift can be adjusted by pressing N and operating the joystick left or right (or the Z or X key).
You will have to tilt the plane, so it should take a little time before the cross hairs start to move. If you perform the same operation on the screen above one of the cross hairs (I forget what you call it. Screen with the entire Norden sight visible), you should see the scale at the bottom move and the plane tilt.

I feel like this is correct--I think you have to hold it down. I'm getting better results this way, though this last run (tutorial) missed by a ton (outside first circle).
