Application Load Error
Hey guys,

I bough this game today and every time I start it up it seems to give me this error. I've verified the cache files, steam is up to date, my mac is up to date as well... Is there any way to fix this?

FYI when I installed one of the Nancy Drew games on Mac (Shadow at the water edge), I checked the package contents, and found it was using some sort of loader (like wine) from some company who has "ported" many games to Mac. This being the case, if the loader is out of date with the current OSX we are all using Steam and Her Interactive might never be able to help.
Also When I tried running it from with-in the package content, it gave an error of missing file 'dll', so if there are also missing critical system files from the packages content, there may be no hope of getting these games working on Mac again, unless someone phisically fixes it.

One final note is, I am not sure if these Mac versions are working if bought from Her interactive directly. If they are, the Steam simply has out of date software. (If they aren't working, then Her Interactive has a big issue).
Similar story. Sadly, I think my friend warned me of this six months ago and I forgot until I had downloaded the game and encountered the error. You'd think they would be able to fix it in that amount of time.
Steam has started doing refunds now, I don't know the details, but you should see if they'll give you one.

Did you ever find out what the situation is with refunds on this game? I bought it recently for mac, also got burned, a refund is preferable at this point.
You be best to email Steam Support as soon as possible. If it is anything like Google, you will have a short amount of time to initiate the refund.
I emailed Steam and received a response that it was being forwarded to someone, but then I heard nothing. Meh.

In order for me to get it to work I had to download an older version of steam and not let it update.
Where can you email steam support?
I recently puchased the games as well and am experiencing the same errors. I have been playing Nancy Drew games on my Macbook for a long time and have never gotten any errors from games purchased from Her Interactive. All I can say is they better have a good explination or give me a refund because if they do not I will contact the Better Business Bureau. No company should be allowed to sell a game that simply does not work. They seemingly ignore the problem that has been reported numerous times. I will update when Steam finally replies to my email.
I emailed both HER and steam and HER said that it's an issue that Steam has because if you download the game from them it actually works. I also emailed Steam when I got the game (Dec 26th) and they didn't respond so I wrote another one just now that was very angry and they told me to restart my computer and do a bunch of crap but it still doesn't work. I've also tried downgrading steam but then the stupid thing wouldn't open. I am so cheesed. Yey firsttolast2247!!!!! DO IT FOR ALL OF US!! <3

I am also aware that this works, if you search then net enough you find that other people have also had issues and done the same thing here.

Due to this, it has only just become apparent to me that it has to be an issue with the DRM. The old Steam runs the game because the DRM coding that operates the game on a Mac is all okay, but at some point when Steam did an update, this was messed up. So now there are many people who (everyone with a Mac) can not play Nancy Drew games.

So therefore, rebooting and reinstalls will not work. The game works (proven with over Steam version), its just the steam DRM to opperate this on a Mac, does not work.
I've been emailing Steam since December and it finally WORKS! Hopefully the same will work for all of you.
What you have to do is go to the game in your Steam library, right click the game and click properties.

Next go to Betas.

Then in the box where you can type stuff copy and paste this --> ThwEDgb5rfFw
That unlocks a certain beta thing just for this error code.

Then go to the drop down menu above and another thing should be unlocked that starts with drmfix.

Close the dialog box and try playing the game.

It worked for me. Good Luck :)
