Game loads, but crashes on save?

Not a Mac user here, but what gives? I tried uninstalling/reinstalling it, and the game refuses to save? I've also noticed that the skip option that was available in earlier games (and later games) doesn't seem to work here? What gives? Any suggestions for fix?

The solution seems to be to launch directly from Shadow.exe in the game files and not through steam. You can save this way

Windows 10. Same problem. I'm having this issue with at least 3 ND games. Tried launching app from file, still crashes on save attempts. I granted full permissions, changed defender settings, so far nothing is working. I also noticed there's no file folder for saved games?

I THINK I FIXED IT
I just discovered this and it worked when I tested it just now.
On Windows: Go to the .exe file & go to properties. Hit the compatibility tab. I ran the compatibility troubleshooter for it, but the setting that changed was this: under "compatibility mode" select "run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3)"
Far as I can tell this solved my issue.

Same problem with several of the Nancy Drew games, even when playing directly from the CD's or installed game files.
