Game STILL won't open despite troubleshooting

Is anyone else having this problem? No matter what I do, it says the game is running when it's not. Steam is refusing to give me a refund and I'd really just like to play the game if I can't get my money back. I've tried the beta fix that seems to have worked for everyone else, but nothing has changed. Does anyone know of any other fixes?

I did the same thing and it is still not working. The beta fix worked for me on Trail of the Twister, but not on this game.

It's doing that for me. And it also worked on Trail of the Twister for me too, but not this one. I was able to play it a year ago, but all of a sudden now, it won't work. I just contacted Steam Support and informed them that if they don't at least attempt to help or if they go 2+ days without a reply, I WILL be contacting the Better Business Bureau.

Hey all, recently purchased the game and ran into the same problems you guys did.

I was able to fix the bug of the game launching but not actually running and it has to do with the game's compatibility.


I had go to into my steam library to find the game's files (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Nancy Drew - Shadow Waters Edge), find the "Shadow.exe", right click it and go to properties. Go to the compatibility tab, and check the "Run in 640x480 screen resolution" setting. Click Apply, and try launching the game again, it should work this time. If it doesn't, go to the exe's properties and change the Compatibility Mode (Properties -> Compatibility Mode to run the program as for Windows 7).

Hopefully it helps everyone affected!

By the way, the Beta fix (to my knowledge), only fixes Mac users.

Same. Got the patch, still can't open it. It's been over a year.
