DU Standalone coming very soon
I am also late to the party but yes "singleplayer" Dual Universe is coming in August.

-no subscription
-play solo or with friends on your own server (if ur pc is good enough)
-connect to other "privat" servers if you want
-standalone version has a fixed price if i understand it correctly
-full version of the game but not sure yet
-creative mode like minecraft has

sounds pretty good to me but playing DU solo sounds kinda boring...

If they want money for standalone version they can showel that version in the XXX ,i pay more than 2 years monthly, after beta because the lie to community about wipe i with friends go out from that crap! We believe them and lost billions in quanta ,i lost around 15 meganods in storage in ore and on basically 2 years work in game we dig 3 meganodes per day before update no one can imagine amount of stuff and time we lost with that bastards dessision!

The server stack they're releasing is basically a full copy of the game in launch state, the same as can be seen after a wipe on the Demo server. After reading through their Discord server for a while the flexibility available in how a private server can be configured is almost as flexible as their voxel building system. There may be a few public facing private servers, but there will surely be several large invite-only servers, in part due to lack of cheat controls.

I would not call it "milking". To create a linux based server version and bundle it all up probably is worth one man-year in development. So let's say that cost 100K. How many copies can they sell ? Maybe they can sell 5000 copies . So 20 bugs would be a reasonable price for it. Can they make some money with it ? Sure, but only if the first wave of 5000 people create positive feedback. Can they get "rich" with it ? Probably not.

if it wouldn't be worthy money then they would just close servers and wouldn't work on standalone version.

Do current DU owners get it for free or do they have to buy it separately?

Its probably a last ditch attempt since they know everyone except a few fanboys had no interest in paying a sub for it. They dont know if it will work or not, they can only hope it raises money.

They can't do that. Dual Universe is their promo to find potential investors for their future products. Shutting down the official servers that already run on the smallest possible Amazon AWS service would be commercial suicide. They will let it run as long as it cost them no money. Just look at the Novaquark company website.

I didn't mind spending money on this game man, I just didn't want PVP gates for content. That's honestly the only reason I stopped my two subs I had going. At the very start people were camping the higher tier ores. The pvp in this game is literally lame.

If they had just removed the pvp aspect I would have came back immo

pvp really gated nothing advanced materials except plasma was available on planets in pvp zone but w/o planetary pvp so u was able to be attacked just while transporting it could be easily avoided by using warp so where u see this "gates" barring u from obtaining those resourcess?
Plasma was used foradvanced weapons and warp beacons...if u wont pvp what for u want advanced weapons in game where pve is non existant?
Anyway ppl was selling those rare resourcess so u could sell ur safemined stuff and buy it its how game works for crafters in pvp games ....

This is the end of the game as you know it. Towards the end of the year they will announce the subscription MMO shutting down. Honestly, they are being pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ about it... considering how much money the player base gave them, to have the audacity to release the game again but "stand" alone is pretty ballsy. I have the server architecture to run this server without issues, but I doubt I will pay yet again, for the stand alone server, that we dont have any certainty they will continue to develop. It's a pity because this game had a ton of potential...

was thinking the same thing. might be a sign that they officially gave up and just doing a quick cashgrab.

i dont know how much the community can "mod" their servers but that might be the only good thing about it. they are already working on bringing back the old mining system etc. it will take a while thats for sure
