Building a Flying V
I've started to build a hardwood flying V guitar. I've charred it instead of painting it and sanded off the carbon. I'm not sure what pick ups to buy or foot pedals and I'm looking for a small amp.

I'm thinking music store sim might teach me a few things. Any idea's on pick ups for the flying V post your idea's.

super distortion and a paf pro in the neck is what ive got in my hh tele. they balance nicely and theres tons of sound samples of each.

Monoprice 611815 15Watt or a boss katana / some modeling amp if you dont care about tubes. the joyo bantamp meteor is great if you are looking to use headphones or have a pa already. i love this little guy.

cant go wrong with a rat pedal, but there are great cheap copies of everything now. joyo makes a splinter(tmnt rat) for half the price and way more options.
just go to youtube and watch some jhs videos

i really dont think this game will teach you anything. youre better off going to a guitar shop and messing around with different guitars

Do you think Music Sim will give me some idea's on hardware. I like the burning of the wood and the charring. It came out really well. I watched a few video on how to do it and the oil used afterwards. In my minds eye I'm looking for a clean sound between classic rock and blues.

I did come across in a music magazine a foot pedal called horse meat. Plus I was thinking about strings. Maybe Boomer strings. I have a budget of roughly $250-300 on hardware

probably not? Just get a switchcraft output, and some cts pots. make sure you get audio taper for volume. maybe hipshot bridge if you can afford it or it matches the style.
are you doing typical tune-o-matic and stopbar, wrap around, tremolo?

you can maybe find pickup sets on reverb and save a bit of money, just look for some burstbuckers or whatever. im pretty happy with dimarzios price/quality though. i ended up putting $200 of pickups in my buddies $100 SG and you would never know that guitar was made of plywood from hearing it plugged in lol

give that a go and see what it comes up with, then listen to some samples and go from there. the super distortion might be a bit hot for what you want but the paf pro is real nice for cleans in the neck

Im a sucker for the daddario balanced tension sets. D'Addario EXL110BT XL would probably work great if you went with standard gibson scale length.

i just got a mxr fat sugar and im loving it. im guessing the horsemeat is just a klon clone like this is, so just do some research on those and you'll save yourself up to a couple hundred if youre looking at new pedals

D'addario are by far the best strings I have found as far as tone and lifespan goes. Don't buy into the more expensive 'coated' strings. Waste of money. Plus, D'addario are affordable. I down tune a lot, so I've found a set they make called Light Top/Heavy Bottom. They are a thicker gauge on the lower 3 strings and a lighter gauge on the high 3. This is perfect for preventing the lower strings from getting floppy and keeping good tone when down tuned. It also makes the higher strings easier to bend, being a thinner gauge. Highly recommend these strings to anyone that down tunes.

Here's the truth of the matter, and it will apply to anything music related you might want to purchase from here on out: the suggestions of others can be helpful, but do not purchase anything without either playing through it yourself, or at least seeking out high quality clips of others playing with it. Reason being is that all this stuff is subjective. What one person thinks sounds or feels good, you may hate. And nothing will kill your drive to play your instrument like not enjoying the way your instruments sounds or feels. In my humble experience what works for some, and not for others, varies widely.

I think anything helps. Atm I've had to put the build on hold due to work, family and Christmas. In Canada everything is so expensive but I wanna play and build.

when it comes to pickups: for sweet singing sound PAF sound: Lollar Imperial and if you want a very versatile Guitar: Seymour Duncan P Rails. Tuners: Locking tuners make replacing strings easy and fast and tuning more stable, Gotoh has good one fitting on Gibsons. If you want to put a Trem on it . a Duesenberg Les Trem 2 is very easy to assemble and needs no drilling or other things changed on the guitar body.
