I'm old enough to remember what I assume was the first gen of FMV games on the Sega CD. Night Trap, Double Switch (underrated!), Sewer Shark, some boxing game that was actually kind of fun, Phasmagoria (sp?), etc. There were shooters like Mad Dog McCree and Ground Zero Texas. A lot of them were bad, but back then they were mind-blowing. There was one called Wirehead that was the closest to what Wales is doing now, but also pretty different and way more frustrating (there was basically one set path, and choosing wrong meant back to square one every single time, you just had to memorize the right path).

It's really cool to see how FMV games have evolved into interactive movies. It's the best use of the medium, honestly. You can work in things like a notebook or a list of evidence for a detective game (or any other genre), you can shoot it like a movie with branching paths, you can take the Her Story route and search for keywords to solve a mystery, just so many awesome ways you can spice up a movie that isn't possible in a theater. You don't even need the extras, honestly. If a game/interactive movie has a strong enough narrative, that can carry the entire title. I assume these games are profitable or Wales wouldn't make as many. I hope there are a lot more in the pipeline.

tl;dr The kid in me loves the fact that FMV games have found a winning formula. I'll keep buying them as long as they're good (and even if they're just okay - have to support the companies putting this content out).

Thank you for your comments Evo! We do love FMVs and the community. We could use a FMV supporter like yourself over in our FMV Discord. :)

ALWAYS Love the unique aspects of FMV. Not sure why but Idol Tides seemed to have everything I love in a game, esp in creepy hotels, but for some reason it just didn't do it for me. Probably the extremely slow awkward pacing. And the maze. Maybe include the ability to go back or to an earlier chapter like some games have ie: Life is Strange, Detroit Become Human, Beyond Two Souls. Still like the idea and premise, was just way too slow.
