no try the vic 20!! Oh and who thinks TF2 at least has better presentation than TFC? TFC has less sound effects than Wolfenstein 3D!!! And I think Halo 1-2 had better graphics and they were on the consoles during 2001-04

It crashes as soon as you launch, when you join a game? If you can get to the menu try changing your video from software to opengl. I think I had something similar on my laptop.

Yes, please give us more information about when it is crashing.

If you are using the server browser in steam and loading the game from that by joining a server then try, instead, to right click tfc in your steam games list and choose play game. This will take you to the tfc game screen where you can use the in game browser.
Then tell us:

Is it crashing before it even begins to load?
Are you seeing the loading screen with the heavy weapons guy?
Are you getting to the menu screen which has choices such as options etc. but the game is crashing when you try to load the 3d world?

Go into your steam game library listing and right click team fortress classic, then choose properties. In the general tab of properties choose "set launch options" and then put in exactly the following:

-gl -w 800

This should open your game with the opengl renderer at 800x 600 resolution.
Does the game work this way?

If this doesn't work then remove what you put in above on the set launch options line and replace it with:

-safe

do either of these work?

ok remove those launch options then.

Go to windows Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Data Execution Prevention.

Choose "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:"

Then choose "Add". You will need to add Steam.exe to the list (default location is C:\Program FIles\Steam)

Then "Add" again hl.exe (default location is C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\common\Half-Life

If you have any questions about this post back.

unless DEP is off, then leave it off and find hl.exe in the directory TFC is in and run it in compatibility mode for windows xp and run as administrator.

Make sure the drivers for your video card (or integrated graphics) are up-to-date.

If disabling Data Execution Prevention for "hl.exe" doesn't work, try switching into software mode. To do this, add -soft to the launch options.

Windowed mode should also be less error prone, the options for it are: -sw -w 800 -h 600 (for a 800 x 600 window size).

A list of launch options can be found here:
