local coop on steam deck

i'm trying to play locally with my girlfriend on my steam deck hooked up to the tv with 2 controllers connected, but it's registering the steam deck itself as a controller and not the second controller. Is there a way to fix this or should we just play on the computer?

I'd recommend playing on computer. Steam Deck really isn't there when it comes to local co-op, hopefully that'll change soon.

If you DO want to use Steam Deck though, when you have multiple controllers connected, go to the quick access menu, go to the gear/cog, select the "Rearrange controller order" button and rearrange the controller order until the game works properly. Again, it's a REALLY bad system, but it's all the Deck has (and sadly, it's quite frankly better than what you get with a normal PC. PC controller standards REALLY need an update).
