Absurd difficulty

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I can't even pass the 1st demo level on normal difficulty whereas I can beat Quake on hard difficulty. But here, there's much more ennemies than I have ammo and I wind up fighting with my knife again and again, even when using sparsely my SMG. Managed to gather around 50$ to allow me some energy that quickly went away. I don't get the idea.

Maybe the idea was to make the game NOT appealing to old school gamers?

I was more of a UT and UT2k4 player and played at high levels ... but this game is just not fun for me.
