Does virgin edge mean that only the first puppet to use the gear will get the stats? Also which portion of the equipment is considered stats all of it or are there distinctions?

Virgin Edge will remain until one of two things happen: The item is unequipped or the item is upgraded by alchemy. It enhances everything other than Heroic Skills and Special Damage attributes, since those are set in stone.

I went to equip a Training Lance and it said "The equipment with Virgin Edge will be equipped. Stat increase will only be valid the first time. Proceed?"

What the heck is it talking about? What Virgin Edge? Aren't I equipping a lance?

The first time the lance is equipped, its stats get a solid boost. If it gets unequipped, the or alchemized, the boost is lost and it becomes a normal lance. It's like a rare item with better stats, but you can only put it into a build once - after it gets taken out, it's normal.

To be more clear, Virgin Edge is a modifier that can be on gear of any rarity. So you can find Virgin Edge Legendary gear, then once it loses that effect it's just Legendary rather than dropping all the way to normal.

Virgin Edge has no benefits at all in alchemy. If you attempt to upgrade one of them, they lose it, and if you use it to upgrade something else only the base is considered not the VE boost.

As an additional note, you can spot the Virgin Edge icon as a modified Female Unicode icon on the right hand side of a piece of gears stat panel
