Is the damage increase worth having only one attacker in his coven? At the moment I only have slots for one tank, one mage, and one healer, so I'm trying to squeeze the most out of the few multi-slot covens I've got for DPS. That being said, I don't know whether it's more worthwhile to have an extra body to tack on some hits and soak up damage, or if I should focus on buffing up this one character.

That is "Only attacker in Brigade" not coven. As in they are the last surviving attacker.

More attackers is always better than any other bonus you can get.

Protip: create only female in early game - there is a pact with 3 attackers for female only in the early game.

You get one 100% and they are somewhat common as treasures too.

Without them - you will have to stick to mostly 2 attacker slot pacts for a long while minus some exploration reward ones.

Female/Neutral is the requirement actually. That pact does let the Gothic Types get in on it. Everything else, very much so yes.

Quite sure by time gothic are viable/doable - you should be full stacked on better quality pacts or right before it, so hardly changes anything.
That happens quite far into the game tho, I would say ~1/4th-1/3rd depending on how much one plans to grind in end game.

You will likely simply do x3 of every attacker and stick with that for a very long while until the final customization options are there.

You find the first Gossip Pact on Apse's 4th Floor, shortly before getting into the Crimson Transept. You unlock the Gothic Types immediately after the Crimson Transept. You aren't too likely to have other 3 Attacker pacts by that point, but you will likely have 2-3 of the Gossip Pact by then.

Yeah, might be just memory being vague on where guaranteed was, just remember being mostly limited by souls for creation and having gossips quite early.
