Menu moving/selecting by itself when starting the game

I'm trying the demo on ubisoft connect and when I start the game, I get to the "press a button" screen, I do that and then at the language select it's like someone is moving all the options for me, so it just changes between different languages, maybe 5 per second, and I can't get any sensible control over it.

Any ideas? I tried disconnecting my controller, but it seems to make no difference.
