Side by Side configuration error
I tried searching various forums for this issue but can't seem to find anything specific to this game. Apologies if it's a repost

When I try and launch the game I keep getting "The application has failed to start because it's side by side configuration is incorrect". Running Windows 10

Pretty darn sure it's not my hardware specs but, here they are
i7 9700k
RTX 2060
16 Gb Ram
1Tb SSD with 500+ Gb free space

All the various fixes and forum posts seem more centered around glitches in-game and post launcher, but I cannot even get the launcher to pop up.

From what I've learned on the topic the "side by side" error has to do with an issue with Microsoft Visual c++. I have a variety of these redistributable packs installed, including three of the 2008 version both x64 and x86, 2010 x64, 2012 x64, 2013 x64 and 2015 x64.

Fixes I've tried
-uninstalling and reinstalling the various redistributable Microsoft Visual c++ packs
-uninstalling and reinstalling the game
-Checking game files
-Run in compatibility mode for every option available
-Run as administrator
-Run direct from the Steam common folder instead of through the steam library "play" button
-Various resolutions
-Using the Nvidia control panel to set the program vsync to either "Fast" or "Off"
-Even a goofy one where someone copied the Prince_of_Persia_launcher.exe to the desktop, renamed it Prince_of_Persia.exe and copied back to the game folder.

Again with most of that I think I'm probably following the wrong trails of forum posts and It's something to do with the Visual c++ packs I have. Just not sure if I have the correct ones or what.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

Hello Dr. Gonzo, thank you for getting in touch.

]The steps that you have tried so far contain most of the steps I would have advised doing to correct this issue that may be caused by your supporting software.

Could you please open the local file locations on your computer for Prince of Persia and check to see if you have this supporting VDist C++ file installed >
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Prince of Persia\VCRedist\vcredist_x86.exe

If you do have this file installed, please double-click on it and try reinstalling the software, then rebooting your PC, and then launching the game to test if it will replace the files you are having errors with.

The file it should install is the VDist C++ 2005

Appreciate the response Ubi Milky!

The supporting file vcredist_x86.exe was installed where you indicated. I tried running the installer and restarting, no luck. Tried removing the VDist C++ 2005 from my computer and reinstalling, still no luck.

Anything else you can think to try?

Hey Dr. Gonzo,

Thanks for getting back to us, sorry for the delay and to hear that didn't do the trick.

Further to this, could you please try performing a system file check[ubi.li]?

This will run though your OS files (similar to verifying the game files) to ensure none are missing / corrupted.

If there's still no change after completing an SFC, then could you please open a case on our Support Site[ubi.li] and send over your system files.

DxDiag[ubi.li]

Msinfo[ubi.li]

We'd be more than happy to take a closer look!

If you're unable to create a ticket on the Help Site, you can also reach us on Facebook[ubi.li] and Twitter[ubi.li].

Thank you!

that means you're missing an old version of VC redistribution library

Yup, and it took me a while to figure out which one. Just went crazy reinstalling all of them I could find, and finally one worked. Then I was able to experience all of the other glitches past the launcher screen lol. Finally got it working decent now

Hey Dr. Gonzo,

Thanks for coming back to us.
I'm glad to hear that you managed to resolve your issue by reinstalling the correct VC redistribution library, and that you can now fully enjoy the game.

Which one was missing then ?

Let us know if you have any other questions :)
