Can't pick up sticks or anything else - Bug?

Hi, I logged in and started to look around. I tried to figure out what button to pick up things where. The button does not show up on screen, someone in gamechat told me it is left mouse button. I am only able to do "Strafe" as the Show/hide keys says.

Might be a bug right? Should I wait untill it get patched to play?

You can only pick up big sticks, they have a small circle on them if you can use them.
