Pax Dei

Pax Dei

So...what is there to do?
Now before everyone starts talking S#$#. I have like 60-100 hours or so into this. I have played completely solo minus a dungeon experience with a next door neighbor.

Now with that said I am genuinely asking the community what you do to keep playing?

Base building? PVP? We all do crafting. It's the one thing I have noticed there is an excess of. Gathering and crafting.

I have noticed that there are no NPC's, no quests, no guidance, no....anything per say in the world. It's literally a barren land dotted with structures but no real reason to exist.

I bought the 100$ edition, have built a small village on it with a blacksmith shop etc. But now that my village is basically complete, is it time to retire and wait for content?

I'm working towards a forge. Crafted steel anvil. Want to be able to make steel tools. Problem is my leatherworking is only at 11 and it will take forever to get it to 20 to get a good chance of getting fine generic leather, so I can make bellows for the forge.

I know they are adding more hides with next update, but that seems to be mostly the higher tier hides. I'm not even close to the stage of using them yet. So I guess struggle will be the same for me. While those already with 20 leatherworking will find it easier to get o 40.

Think it's the sort of game where you have to enjoy chopping wood or mining. Otherwise it feels like a grind.

My main concern though, is by the time I finish lvling up everything to make best gear. There will probably be a wipe and not sure I want to grind everything again.

Maybe if they add some high tier revealing armor or clothing or something. I would have something to work towards. Wearing heavy mens armor while chopping trees does not really appeal to me. Revealing can still be lore friendly. Like a leather minikirt and top. Similar to Xena warrior princess perhaps. Also being able to craft underwear that does not look like diapers would be great.

I'm literally stonewalled at every leather past the 2 you start with as a solo player. I can feel that pain.

Given that it's very early EA, Tech demo level imho, I am not sure there IS anything else to do. I myself have gotten to some decent gear, fleshed out plots with 2 inactive members and well.... I can hunt more I guess.... and gather more I guess but yeah bout it. I'd die in like 4 hits to anything outside of my valley even in full chain/plate ( which is REALLY confusing to me, as my untrained nerd ass could take a wolf in platemail and a huge sword/axe/maul/bow.... o.O imho there is nothing much else. I am just gonna gather a bit more and wait for the next patch or two, see the rate of content added. If it's dismal I'll prolly check out until "launch".

The combat in this is the absolute worst and makes 0 sense. Meanwhile you get people in game who say "iT's A sKiLl iSsUe"

it literally drives me insane how in full plate with a sword and shield a single wolf eats you alive.

I am literally smashing wolves with the first spear and crap chain mail, are you pressing ctrl to use your super moves ? are you shield bashing ? are you even attempting to block any of the incoming dmg ? sorry to say it but its a skill issue, sorry if that drives u insane ....

There are named NPCS. Just go out and discover the points of interested and dungeons. But they require groups to complete. Its a sandbox game, do you want to rule the land, do you want to be a lumberjack that trades wood for wool? Its up to YOU on what YOU want to do. For me: I want a 6 man party to go and farm dungeons.

I'm fine with fighting 2 wolves at a time. But I have to cheese black bears by getting them to chase me and then jumping on a foundation block and hitting them with spear. It also works on the human nps.

But some mobs I don't have a hope with like the angry souls and vectors. They do massive damage and since can't build in wildlands usually nothing to jump up on that they can't climb.

My wife and I play together. She liked to build and run things( go figure) so we work together to get resources to build stuff up in preparation for the economy. She likes going into dungeons and hanging out with neighbors ( we are on a RP service) and I enjoy hunting all the animals and bringing all my furs home to make and store leather for when the economy opens since I think it's gonna be in high demand.
We are working on building a little general store on a zone line to the harded areas so people can stop in and get extra supplies or come back to refill on arrows and food or health potions etc.
We are having fun and are very pleased to not have to follow some stupid story line quests or do fetch quests forever to level up.
Pretty fun game so far for being a alpha EA game.
Hope you find your place too.

Every time a DEV says "player economy", choose your own adventures/style, or other similar nonsense. Run. All they did was make a map and crafting sim. Bro, they literally call themselves a "Social Sandbox" and you ask what there is to do?!? NOTHING!! That is what you do in a social sandbox, nothing!!! You build your little sand castle and talk to your friends, that's all folks.

You got what you payed for. You are a Founder.

I'd be quite interested in the feelings of the developers... Almost a month since release, peak 3k max, not much talk about the game, not much to see on streams... I guess a success, right?t
wikario Jul 16, 2024 @ 3:09am
Discover and explore. Not just the landscape, but the various landmarks too. The opponents you can encounter there. Play with the Combat- and Magic-System. I agree its not the best right now, but you can do more than most seem to think.

And of course gather, craft, build, this is the highlight of the Game.

And if you have done all this, you have likely spend 100 or 200 hours. More than most spend on any single-player Game.

And its an EA, more content will come. I only doubt that devs will finish the game within the planned year. IMHO you can double that to be realistic.
Redlotus Jul 16, 2024 @ 8:29am
What is there to do? This is a common question with a lot of sandbox games as they rely a lot on the players to create content. I also saw above that one person said they play with their significant other, I'd highly suggest playing with a larger group as it just make things easier and more fun.

As others have said here is a short list of things to do:
  • Craft - There are a lot of prefessions that you can currently level to level 41.
  • Build - This is a big one and one of the things Pax Dei does well.
  • Explore - The world is pretty large go explore it.
  • Boss/Magic Item Hunting - There are named NPC at random locations on the map that drop items to craft magical items.
  • Dungeons - There are dungeons in the game that really require a group.

There are other things to do but that's most of what I do in game.
