Someone unlocked my plot and took all my items. Is this cheating?

Not sure if this still works.
But when you placed items close to your border and somebody placed a plot directly next to your plot it kinda snapped and warped, so some of your stuff was inside of the other persons plot, so they could take that stuff and later simply delete their plot and move on.
Or your chests are set to open for all?

Some players were giving things away for free until recently.
Some try to sell things cheap and nobody buys.
Thieves would normally take most valuable items only.
If every single chest of yours is empty, then it is a bug.
If you have or had only a few chests then you are a beginner and nobody needs your items and you can gather fast again everything. Some players may even help you get started if you ask them.
In any case contact (ping) the developers through discord and also open a ticket on their support site[support.playpaxdei.com]

Also be aware that recently some cleanup occurred and those who played very little might have lost their plots:
