Every months some plots get wiped but with very limited restrictions to not harm players who really played the game yet and only take a break.
Also, this game is an Alpha, not a full released MMO. If it would be a fully released MMO things would look a bit different, then so many players who stopped playing would be a big problem, but not yet. So simple answer is: you need to live with it as it is right now.
I think it's a double-edged sword, just another one of the areas they need to do a better job of communicating about.
I get that some people (myself included) will probably return with newer content. But the reality is that in the interim, they are also potentially driving new customers away.
At release I don't know what systems will be in play and theoretically they may have less problems with a transient population. But they need to figure out something for the duration of early access.
Don't get me wrong, I liked what I saw and had some fun. But that was with other people. I don't know if it would have the same appeal if I was just starting out now. Especially if I picked the 'wrong' server/starting zone.
Just do a wipe of everything except skills and add character transfers.

You seem to imply that multiple wipes are not already a certainty in our future.
My mistake if that's not the case.
