Why we NEED private servers.
Most players do not take time to learn the building system, they just start stacking pieces until they find out they can never cover it with a roof, so we're left with a map full of ugly builings. In other cases, a few players exploit the ability to stack meshes into each other to create new shapes to the point that it causes the game to break with lag for any players who enter the area of the map that these players are building in. its ridiculous. the only fix i can see for this is to wipe the whole map and rewrite the game code to not allow mesh clipping. which really sucks. abandoned builds all over the map ruin the scenic views of some base build locations. it would just be so much better if we had private servers. also, the updates are far too spread out. at least with private servers we could have mods that help make the game more playable while we wait for content. im already at almost 500 hours in and we've only gotten one minor update.

I agree, there are a lot of abandoned houses on the map..I would make the system as it was at the time in Ultima Online, namely that if the player does not visit the house during the week, then he is automatically deleted.

Another huge reason there are abandoned or seemingly abandoned structures is the sheer amount of resources needed.
You go harvest for a couple hours, then can build a few foundations and a couple walls. Anything beyond a tiny house will require days to weeks for a normal person to build. Assuming they stick with the game after the realization of how much grind there is.

Most of the abandoned buildings aren't because people don't know how to build, it is because they abandoned the game or are in the tedious process of gathering the materials.

Yes, that's exactly what the game needs to thrive... segment off the small playerbase until everyone quits because of how "dead" servers become.

Debated buying this game, but looking at the reviews and small number of people who bought this, i decided against buying it. I am pretty sure this game will fail and do not want to waste money on a game i can not play in the future.

A private server would be incredible if I had free access to build everywhere... I'd build my own Camelot.

Worry about your own builds and learn to laugh at the goofy or ugly ones is my advice. I think some people in this thread would be better served playing one of the 500 single player games that already exist, some of you sound like you do not like MMO games.

I don't see that happening cause they want to charge you per plot on the servers. That's the plan and its not changing. At least on the plus side, those incomplete houses won't be around much cause who would pay monthly for that.

Nothing would kill this game faster than private servers.

Private servers sound nice.

This is suppose to be a REAL sandbox MMORPG not some Conan exile game.... Absolutely NOT... to private servers....

No.

They simply can't do it with their plot system. They'd have to change their monetization.

I'm sure there are many technical reasons as to why they can't do this as well. I do not want to support a MMO that intentionally divides the player base. So, I'm against it.

As soon more and more features comes into the game that are clearly made for MMO scale people should more understand that this is not possible with private servers without the need to change the whole game.

Private servers.. Thats a solid NO from me, this WOULD kill an already not so social mmo,
can see it now: a list of dozens & dozens of locked servers (likely mostly Asian build servers) & the public ones all empty, ya no thanks. Also what protections would players have if they were removed w/o warning & locked out of a private server having spent x time on a given build, this would be abused.

Whilst i do agree abandoned builds ruin the views this needs to be addressed properly not with silly insignificant criteria's for deletion, dev needs to stop p/ussyfooting around & start laying ground work for clear hard deletion criteria ie: Inactive 30 days plot/s removed & build made public for example - [characters are retained]

Need private servers because the official servers are gonna get shut down with the abysmal player count and the need to make it a subscription model.
Balmung Aug 29, 2024 @ 4:08pm
That servers are paid by us players for at least a year and the less play the cheaper the costs are and it did not even matter if there are no players on the server, because it is no MMO yet. There is no need yet to keep this worlds alive.

And even when i feel like a broken record since weeks, I will never stop to say that until someone can really make a logical argument why they should care about player numbers so early in the development. We are only testers who want to support the developers with their feedback, that's it. Nothing more, nothing less.
