Currently, it can be a pain. The chat window doesn't always scroll, doesn't always stay active, and it is currently easy to miss if someone in your area said something (especially if you have your head down and are crafting).
Agreed. For a "Social MMO," it doesn't give us enough tools to be social. :D
Global chat takes up game resources that are needed for anything else!
Plus global chat is normally chat about everything but the game and gets toxic quick.
On the other hand I miss the off topic spam on games like Black Desert. Mostly it was fun as it was not really moderated. So long as it was not something racist or whatever could write anything, as long as there was not a GM around.
Problem is for me is if they introduce a global chat, I'm guessing since even certain words like Wench are censored. They may get too strict and start banning for bad language.
I could just imagine some griefer kids trying bait someone they killed while mining, in global chat into saying something offensive after calling her a useless noob for example. Then they send screenshots in a report and player gets either muted or banned. Happens in many PVP games especially. Like in MO2 you can get chatbanned for calling out PVP location of someone who killed you to warn others. Because it upsets lazy campers who just sit all day in their fave spot.
If they introduce global chat, I hope they add separate tabs for Trade and Recruitment. Because if I'm using global chat and see trade or recruitment messages getting spammed, I just mute them.
