SANDBOX Game goes into Early Access, People clearly NOT liking Sandbox Games buying it, playing few min and hate-posting on the Forum because "nothing to do".
But there is a lot to do.... for People who understand what a Sandbox Game is and how it is played.
And after such updates player activity will increase.
I think the game will survive.
The question is, do you want / hope the game to survive?
There's been so many questions asked to the devs to clarify, and so many have gone basically ignored.
I sincerely hope they prove me wrong, and not because I care about the people that bought it; I want a game like this to succeed because I like the concept. And the more games that succeed like this, the more others will be made.
On the other hand, if this one fails, it becomes less likely to be seen by other devs as a profitable venture, and games like this would come out more slowly and rarely.
Pax Dei release to 11,000 concurrent and is rapidly dropping (less than half now), and their first (of many) competition is releasing in the coming week (Once Human). Let's see how Pax Dei devs do it when the numbers fall to unsustainability. Will they fold completely and screw everyone that bought their game or have the decency like Nightingale devs and release a dedicated server to allow anyone who bought they game to continue enjoying after they close shop.
My guess is, anyone who paid for this game lost their money. Enjoy it now while you can.
i love the genre, but incompetent devs that try and make things like this are so common. probably one of the "most likely to fail" genres i've come across. the biggest crowdfund scandals always seem to be in similar vein to this game too. it's just a difficult to develop type of game. meticulous planning miscalculations, so many errors and hangups, feature creep issues, greed taking over (because people know players are starved for this type of game, as less and less fulfill that niche), etc. all happens so often. it's a miracle when one makes it out of "game dev hell".
How sad this is and what does it say about these people rooting for hate for a game they will never play.
it will NOT take off after 1.0 at all due to the scam sub system in place
sub cost will vary depending on plots you wish to use.. so the ones who paid for master edition... they will be subbing max price... scam
But I've seen that the game is meant to have a casual target audience.
That means we cannot compare it with mmos which attract players who consume content by rushing fast to see and play the "end game"
I think they did a good job attracting some of these casual players and there are more to join later if the devs don't give up.
The fact that devs don't give many details
- showed to developers how many are ready to support the idea. Even if they stop playing, they expect updates and will return. It is part of the deal.
- prevents us to criticize their intentions and act as negative "influencers". Maybe not so much we here on the forum but those who make youtube videos
But does not imply that there is a shortage of players ready to pay after 1.0
I don't like the way how we are supposed to pay for plots either. I wait to see how much will actually cost / month. Maybe it will be affordable, comparable to other months subscriptions.
39.99 to beta test as its not ready for EA then get us to sub what a joke.
Game goes into EA when its not ready to leave beta thats the issue. I have no issue with sandbox games but releasing as EA then charging us to beta test it for them is a money grab.
Also the numbers have been steady. Yes it dipped but it is steady. I also see new people coming all the time. Not to mention if people got the game through the website and not on Steam. The numbers are higher.
